Some advices…

Hello Massimo,
Hope you are fine !
I need your advice (one more time) for the set up of my Box 400. I will put the boxes on a board, and I would like to have your advices regarding the dimensions of the board. I’m going to cut this board, and I know that the board must exceed the dimension of the boxes in front on the boxes, but how much does the board exceed ? 10 cm ? 5 cm ?
You often explain that the sl 1000 are made for a 4 walls installation…and I wonder if I’m correct when I count the walls. 4 walls means (for instance) : the ground +1, the wall behind the speakers +1, the wall behind me + 1 (the listener)….and after, the wall on the left or on the right of speakers does they count for one or for two ?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Franck

Hi Frank
The best stand for box 400 are the Grundig Box 2500a or the Telefunken TL800. You can see in this movie: https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=!APJx4JxU9O4jbwQ&cid=A49B8AFBF6DE996E&id=A49B8AFBF6DE996E!3930&parId=A49B8AFBF6DE996E!3754&o=OneUp
A board have not the same function. An alternative can be a bedside table or a full piece of furniture. The distance from the front edge is not very critical, about 10 cm is fine.

When an audio system have sonority, the installation made with the speakers located on the wide side of the room is always an improvement, keeping the side walls at an adequate distance and possibly (to avoid esalting / attenuating the same frequencies) so asymmetrical (i.e. with a slight greater proximity to one of the sides). Also with the SL1000 the proximity of the side walls remains inadvisable but in this way the only possible 4th reinforcement could be obtained in an attic, placing the speakers on the back wall on the lower part of the ceiling (see the location of my system at inside the “personal collection” link).
Instead if you want to take advantage of the side walls, each of them acts as a reinforcement on the bass on the only speaker to which it is near. A further reinforcement in extreme cases (as for the installation of a SL1000), can be sought by bringing the speakers very close together: being the content in the low range very similar between the two channels, in fact it is as if a reflective wall (on the bass frequency) is always in the middle of the speakers themselves … just measure the distance between the speakers and divide it by two to get the distance of the reinforcement due to the simple stereo placement.
I hope this help you.
Best Regards
Massimo

I love your advices !
Understood for the 4 walls installation, and SL1000 advices, very clear.
Regarding the box400, I send you a picture…I understand that I’m not on the right way with my shelf…impossible to find a TL800, so rare on the market and the 2500a prof are expensives in France ! May be can I use a 2500 without « a » ? Or find a bedside with Ikea ;0)….
It’s a long journée but I like it ! Thanks again !!!
Best regards
Franck

Hi Frank
Yes also 2500 without “a” is a good stand solution.
