Ciao, Signor Massimo.

Is there any possible problem to connect hifi Box 300 and 650 professional together on R35 or v7200 if equipment is valid?

My R35 burned out after 10 years playing with Box 300 & 650(no professional). It happens 15 days after i replaced 650 with 650 professional, so i connected another Grundig receiver, and I’ve lost left channel after one hour of playing. Could it be because invalid 650 professional or it is just bad luck coincidence?

Thank you for your time.

Ante, Croatia.

Hi Ante

Probably only bad luck

Regards

Massimo

Dear Massimo!

I have one question for you:
Did you listen Grundig FineArts set - I mean top series 9000 and 9009 – CD + amplifier + loudspeakers?
What is your opinion about sound of this „highest” (price and look) series of Grundig?
I have v1700+CD7550+Box650Prof but I have so far no opportunity to listen to this top series od FineArts.
Thank you - best regards - Artur

Dear Artur
I'm sorry, but the FineArts series has nothing to do with sound quality that made Grundig products from 1974-1985 so different from all the others. In 1984 Philips joined Grundig and the audio design team was directed to the video sector. An exception are some model that remained in the catalog for a few years but unfortunately the FineArts series has nothing to do with the CCI project system of the golden Grundig period.

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,

Thank you for your answer. I suspected such answer ;) but I am interested how much or how big is the diffirence because many peoople (audiophiles) are thinking that CD and amplifier 9009 series (FineArts) is the best achievment of Grundig sound and technology. That wy I asked you - did you listen to set of A-9009 and CD-9009 and your opinion. Did you hear such a set?

Thank you very much!

Artur

Dear Artur
I know the real causes of sound and I have verified them on many many occasions over more than thirty years of design works. For this reason it is enough for me to see a device without a lid to see if it has any chance of good sound. But if you have this conviction about the FineArts series you are right to follow it, sometimes personal beliefs have the upper hand over listening.

Greetings
Massimo

Thank you for your answer.

Dear Massimo - I know - CCI for you is nothing special - you know it by hart or you look on photo and you can tell me about sound of this CD and amplifier everything ;-)
I am not able.
I am interested how do you know that Grundig A-9009 and CD-9009 does not sound good?

I understand that you did not listen to such a set in real life.

For me it is amasing and it is a magic that you know the sound of amplifier by looking into picture!
How is it possible I do not know.
I can uderstand that you have circuit plan of all elements (transistors, capacitors etc) and reading drawing of circuit connections you can tell me something about its sound but NOT by looking into picture/photo of the equipment!

How can you say its sound is weaker than v1700 without real listening session ?

I am very interested because my coleague invited me to compare my set (v1700+CD7550+Box650Prof) with A-9009 and CD-9009 and I would like to know someones opinion but after real listening session.

I admire your listening experience and achievments in audio! I also thank you for your advices on your site about Grundig. It is big suprise to copare Grundig sound with set high-end worth 100 000 Euro. Very often Grundig wins ;)

Please explain me how do you know that A-9009 does not sound good?????

warm greetings - Artur

CCI = Circuit-chassis interface

In the meaning of this acronym lies the answer to your question (that facts can demonstrate).

Make your comparisons (by disconnecting and putting in another room the electronics that you don't listen to) and you will realize by yourself that my words have foundation.

The problems are not in the circuit (only partially responsible) but in some boundary conditions.

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

The MA10tp is well working ! Very performant amplifier, such a Grundig, but more detailed, transparent and dynamic ! Congrats !

I just need three advices :

- regarding the Box 300 connection, should I cut the current cable with the Din plugs or build a kind of Din cable with a female connection behind the amplifier and let the Box 300 with the Din plugs  ?

- my ps1020 has a cable with two Rca, you mentioned that the Din input is better...should I use an adapter Rca/ din or use the Rca inputs?

- I have both cd35 and cd7550 ...and the cd35 seems more alive and dynamic, may be less neutral. What is your advice between this CD players ?

Thank you again and Nice weekend Massimo

Hi Frank

Thank you!
To connect the boxes 300 if you do not want to cut the cables, you need to make an adapter with a din female point-line and 15cm of cable type Norstone CL150. However, for better result,  put a small ball of plaster (like the one on the box grids) over the joint of the two connectors, later I send you photos with an example.
For your ps1020 can you send me pictures of the cable with connectors? Standard connector in ps1020 is a DIN connector.
Between cd35 and cd 7550 I advice the one less tampered with over time ... trust your ear.

Best Regards

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

Just a question, I use the LT with three equipments connected : cd 7550, PS 1020 and a tuner 7500...

Somewhere, I have the feeling that the high frequencies are more "aggressives" when the tuner is connected to the LT amplifier (even if the tuner is "off")... or more soft if the tuner is not connected.

Is it in my mind ?

Thanks

Best regards
Franck

This is correct…when you connect others source, the quality worse. For best quality you must connect only ps 1020 and cd7550 to inputs. This is not a caracteristic of LT amp but you can verify the same comportment also with all Grundig amps (or others very transparent amplifier like these...if only they existed)  J

Regards

Massimo

I'm not crazy ! thank you.

Can I keep 1020 and 7550 connected in the same time or should I connect only the source I use ?

Thanks Massimo

Frank

If you have ps1020 or ps1020a with original shell, original Shure M85G and N91G needle, you can connected in the same time. A little worse the ps1020b.

Massimo

Thanks, I’m going to send you a photo of my 1020...really special with RCA connectors (really seems manufactured with). A or B I don’t know, I have a Jico needle....I’m quite sure that you will explain that it’s also better to remove the supply of equipments we don’t use, no ?

On rear you can see the exact model. Listen your cd player and try to disconnect turntable…

Massimo <>

Good morning

I have Pioneer TAD speakers with TD-4002 medium and high drivers, and TL-1601 for bass.

Very different sensitivity.

My room is about 80sq/m.

To amplify speakers, I have Grundig XV7500, and two V1700 amplifiers as power amplifiers.

To control difference in sensitivity, I use preamplifier output volume control.

Questions.

Should I change V1700 for Linear Transfer amplifier?

If yes.

It is possible to use only one amplifier, solution that I prefer for economic reasons?

If yes.

Which one?

How to control different sensitivities?

If your answer is two amplifiers, which ones?

Best regards

César

Dear César
If you have a passive crossover but there is no attenuation resistance on the tweeter, you need to pilot the two speakers with different levels using just two amplifiers. What choose according to your needs is difficult to advise ... you can choose a hybrid solution with a V1700 and a LT amp or the solution with two LT amp. I would exclude the LT MA100 given the efficiency of the speakers. I think a MA50 (or two if you want to do the pairing) can be fine.

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Maximo

First: I’m pleased with my sound, thanks to you.

Is with you that I find Grundig magic.

Second: my problems are minor ones.

1: use integrated amplifiers as power one, makes bubbles in my head.

2: such a lower power output makes even more itching.

Crossover have a l-pad, but I do not like l-pads: I think de-gradate sound. I had bypassed it.

Use only one Linear Transfer power amplifier is a good solution: if you find a way do deal with different sensitives.

Third: You recommend RCA interconnect cables; speaker cables; and power cables.

What about DIN cables: and DIN RCA cables: what do you recommend.

Where can I buy cables you recommend.

I would like to be sure that my equipments are in you recommendation state.

There is any possibility, that you please verify it and rectify?

Best regards.

Cesar

Only one Linear Transfer power amplifier is a good solution: if you find a way do deal with different sensitives.

Without l-pad is not possible find a solution for drive with a single amplifier two speakers with different sensitivity.

The cable rca that I recommend is supplied with the LT amplifier. You find the recommended cables on my website anyway

http://motxam.interfree.it/Atruths.html

Dear Maximo

If your are in my place what you do?

Is it possible to improve my sound, assuming everything is installed with yours recommendation?

Is it possible with only one Linear Transfer amplifier amplifying both drives, with L-pad??

Should I use, Linear transfer amplifier for bass and V1700 for medium and highs?

Should I not buy anything.

Should I buy 2 Linear Transfer amplifiers: and I only do, if you guarantee a big improvement in sound quality?

Please tell-me what shall I do?

Another point: could you do me a favour, and check all my equipment to see if everything is alright?

Best regards

César

I have seen your video, I have some question:
1) Do you use LP only?
2) Turntable and pick-up models?
3) Your speakers system is an original TAD or DIY with speakers TAD?
4) What are the features that you would like to improve on your system?
5) Are there "fixed components" (components that you would not like to change)?

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Maximo

I try to answer yours questions.

1) DO YOU USE LP ONLY?

No: I use LP, and digital.

Where electronica are, you can see, in right looking size, a OPPO Blue Ray player.

I play DVD and Blueray films and Opera: and on top is a TV box, that is connected to OPPO.

OPPO is connected to CD imput.

I use same input to connect EMT 948 and EMT 930, that are on the hole on far looking right.

948 and 930 are connected to a balanced split box that is connected to preamplifier by a Balanced/RCA cable made by me with BDC cable.

Usually I connect OPPO to CD imput: Rarely, I like to ear EMT: so I disconnect OPPO and connect balanced box.

I do not play very much OPPO: but I play much computer music from a computer that is in front of me

Computer is connected to a small DAC that is located in same shelf where bass V17 is.

DAC is connected to preamplifier to Tape 2.

Note: I have same inexpensive small DAC that I change often.

Now is MUSE playing.

2) TURNTABLE AND PICK-UP MODELS?

Long answer,

Some years ago, I have opportunity to buy radio turntables for nice prices.

So my ex-wife uses to say, that prefer that I collect stamps instead of turntables.

I refer some: not all.

Sony PS-X9: with Shure M75GT2 is playing right to preamplifier, connected to Tuner.

EMT 928: I like it very much: is on far left, playing with Stanton 500 cartridge: I like it very much.

Is connect to tape 1.

Garrard 401, Gray clone tonearm, with Shure M44G: I like it very much.

Is connected to phono MM

EMT 930: I have 3: with 155, 153 stereo phono stages, and 139 mono phono stage: I'm going to sell it: at lest 2.

Playing now, on far right corner is 153 phono stage one, with EMT TSD cartridge.

EMT 948: with Shure SC35C: I like it very much: on far right.

This are the ones that are now installed.

In medium, every moth I change some models, and install others.

These are some.

Thorens TD 124

Thorens TD 135: I like it very much.

Techics SP 10 with 2 arms…

Grundig 1010: 2

Grundig 1020: 2

I like Grundig turntables: but in my system, they make some feedback.

I hope that you tell me how to fix it.

And much more, like…

Toshiba SR50

Teac with floating suspection.

Lenco: almost all models….

Dual: some models.

And……

3) YOUR SPEAKERS SYSTEM IS AN ORIGINAL TAD OR DIY WITH SPEAKERS TAD?

I bought boxes and crossover in Hong-Kong, and install TAD drive.

4) WHAT ARE THE FEATURES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE ON YOUR SYSTEM?

I had said: I like very much my sound: My infelicity are small: integrated amplifiers working as power amplifiers: and 17W in each amplifier.

Is only head problems, more than sound problems.

But of course: If I have opportunity to improve sound quality, I would be much pleased.

5) ARE THERE "FIXED COMPONENTS" (COMPONENTS THAT YOU WOULD NOT LIKE TO CHANGE)?

Not: not one.

Some years ago: I was a furious turntable connector.

Not now: I could sell al turntables and more.

Best Regards

Dear Cesar
Your turntable collection is impressive.
I know many of them and I appreciate some of your choices.
Another questions to get a clearer picture and to tell you how I would move in your place:
1) With which other speakers did you feel comfortable in your room before the TAD?
2) Do you have a complete Grundig ps1020 with mat, original metal band, 45rpm adapter, Shure M85G + N91G available? If yes it's a ps1020, 1020a or 1020b (see rear panel)?
3) The more frequently source that you use is the “liquid” music from pc (correct?) and when you want obtain the top quality you connect turntable, it’s correct ?

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Maximo

Sorry for my late answer.

Answer to second question:

I have spent all day looking for my PS1020: I could not find it.

Is somewhere: but in a difficult somewhere.

I have find 3 Grundig PS 1010, 1 Saba 900: direct drive turntable, very similar to Grundig PA1020: but PS1020 nope.

I have 2 Shure M85G, and N91G and N75GT2 available.

Answer to first question.

Before TAD speakers I have a very different music disposition.

I have a Martin Logan speakers in back, on door right.

Answer to third question.

Correct.

Dear Cesar
I understand that the TAD system is to your liking in your environment but maybe you have not tried something alternative. A Grundig that could adapt to your location is the box 2500a (with installed grills) on Bose stand. It would be a test to see if the TAD is irreplaceable from you or if we can consider an alternative that can be better and that would allow the use of a single amplifier. The 2500a is not to 100% in your room (the near rear wall would be necessary) but I think they could still fit well. Other two speakers that you should try are the Audiorama 8000 and IMF Super compact 2.
I personally believe that your speakers are not irreplaceable and in my opinion this is an aspect to be evaluated but unfortunately we are separated by many Km. Alternatively also the Aktiv box 30 you could try but to have them full CCI is need the modify.
The aspect of the CCI that is always very difficult to transmit is the need to galvanically separate the full CCI devices from not CCI devices to achieve the best results.
For example: if you try a Grundig PS1010 with all the accessories (original mat, metal band, 45rpm adapter) + original shell and M75B + N75gt2 head and you really want to hear its potential you can not connect it with other turntables (or others source) to the XV7500 but this must only have full CCI devices connected. Otherwise the sound of the turntables comes to level transparency downwards. The other devices in the room should be disconnected from the XV7500 and from 220V network. Obviously you can not put off the television or anything else but what is possible, among the devices that are rarely used anyway, would benefit. For example, if you leave your DAC or OPPO connected to the XV7500 while listening to the PS1010, it will get significantly worse.
Another solution that would benefit is to use the XV7500 with its T7500 Sinto using the 6-pole DIN cable (a central pole that carries power for the relay) and taking care to turn on the pre from the power button of the sinto. The improvement in this case is quite net.
As you can see I did not talk about amplifiers ... if I were in your place I would start to try the above solutions.

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Maximo

Before we go to finally, slowed me some question.

1) Why do you prefer for my room, Aktiv 30 insted of Aktiv 40?

2) Why do you think such a small speaker like IMF Super compact 2 is suitable for a large room as mine?

I have a pair o Monitor Audio 700 gold, that I like very much: they are similar in size to IMF: and I had never consider use it, for size reasons.

3) what tuner to buy T7500 or T7500a: they are both selling on Ebay

Let´s finally.

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO.

After reading what you said and your site, my wishes are:

I would like to have a full CCI system.

And I would like to have other system to play computer music, OPPO, TV, and other fancy turntables.

A cording to you I think is possible.

I have one electric phase connected to power box, that I use only for music.

Could that phase be used for CCI system?

And wall power be used for other system?

I have Akiv 30, Akiv 40 and 2 XV7500.

And now please tell me what shall I do.

If you say Akiv boxes are better, and that I should send my equipment to you for full CCI modification: I do.

If think that is better, for me to buy an Akiv box with CCI, that you already have, I buy it

If you consider other solution better just say, and I try to find money to get it.

You just say: and I try to do it.

Best regards

Cesar

1)    Aktiv 40 (and aktiv 20 and 30) reach their better result on BF4 support (12cm height) but in this way the height of the tweeter is probably under your desk. On 45cm stand Aktiv 40 has not a good sound. I forgot the Aktiv50 which is probably the best aktiv solution for your environment. But if you have aktiv 30 and 40 you can try and tell me your impressions. I think however that in your room the Grundig aktiv solution is not the better solution for “height problems”. The guilty is  your desk J. For this reason I advice to test Grundig Box2500a (many different to aktiv 40 in bass frequency) that reach his better result on 45cm stand.

     2) Do not confuse imf compact (two way) with super compact (three way). The aperiodic system of them I think it should give a good result when lifted with 45cm stand in your room. Not a great bass extension but sure a good balancing.

3) Only aesthetic differences, T7500 is more beautiful :-)

I would like to have a full CCI system.

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO.

I can help you to build a CCI system in your room but, like the root of a tree, the correct choose of speakers for your room is THE FIRST step to go through.

Your location is not easy because normally the pneumatic suspension speakers needed the rear wall near or the floor near.

My advice is : test Box2500a on Bose stand and test IMF super compact 2 on same stand. If one of this reach a better result of TAD we can proceed to other step.

We need patience and method, first we need to understand how your room reacts with some speakers…

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Maximo

A big thank you for your time.

First: you say for me to try Grundig 2500a and IMF super compact 2 on Bose 45cm stands?

So : I should buy it.

Please inform:

Have you any of this items for sale?

If yes, please inform price, including shipping costs to Portugal, and way to pay you.

If not: I must look at Ebay, or similar site.

Second: could you please check my Grundig equipment, to see if it is according to CCI standards?

If yes, please inform address and price.

Third: I’m going to do everything you say: I’m sure we are going to get very good results.

Best regards

Cesar

>First: you say for me to try Grundig 2500a and IMF super compact 2 on Bose 45cm stands?

Yes

>Have you any of this items for sale?

Sorry, I haven’t to sell.

>Second: could you please check my Grundig equipment, to see if it is according to CCI standards?

Like you can read on forum (http://hifi.altervista.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2 ) from October 2013, due to lack of time, I check only the Grundig apparatus that I supply for completing LT system.

>Third: I’m going to do everything you say: I’m sure we are going to get very good results.

The choise of speakers must be do with attention….from this dependent all the follows steps.

Massimo

Dear Maximo

Life is so complicated that there is not need to complicated it more.

My original intentions is to buy a Linear Transfer amplifier.

We starting talking, and in the end you suggest that best for me is a CCI system.

I agree: let’s do it.

I have a lot of Grundig equipment: all suggested in your site.

You say now: you need more equipment: you say witch and suggest how to use it.

I agree.

Now.

The mother of your recommendation for a full CCI system is equipotent strictly according to CCI rules.

How do I know that?

Only you can tell me.

If one equipment, only one equipment is not according to rules, no more CCI system!!!!

I can buy speakers you suggest, install it accordingly what you say, and sound is terrible.

Why?

Equipment that I bought here and there is not according to CCI rules.

So: for me: the mother of rules to have a full CCI system is to have correct CCI equipment, installed according your’s rules.

Am I wrong?

Only one person can check equipment installed: that person is you.

If you say: buy a Linear Transfer amplifier: I buy it.

If you say: buy Linear Transfer speakers: I buy it.

Please: just say: I believe on you: but please again: let’s be sure that everything is according to CCI rules.

And only person can guarantee that: that person is you.

What can I say more?

Best Regards

Cesar

Cesar

I am available to help you for reach a good CCI result but the CCI check of your apparatus is not the first priority at the moment. When you have found the better speaker for your room we can resume the speech and choose the best path. I am not a "seller" and I do not want to advise you by making you buy things that I have but which I do not consider suitable for your situation. Be patient, yours is a particular enviroment and there is need of some experiment. Then we'll see the rest. If you want my help I need to understand how your room reacts with speakers I know. A good indication could also come from the aktiv 30 you already have at home: could you describe the sound you get by replacing them with TAD?

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Maximo

This weekend I had installed Grundo Akiv 30 near the wall, as showed on photo.

Impression: very, very good: very impressive…..

Problem: Sound on TAD comes for all back wall: you have a complete orchestra in front of you.

I have two strong, very strong supports: you can see on photo.

Should I use it?

Please tell me what to do next?

Best regards

Cesar

>Sound on Aktiv 30 comes from two holes.
>Can I do a better installation?

You must remove the TAD when listen Aktiv.
Have you insert feet under aktiv?
Leave the right speaker parallel to wall, the left is correct like photo. You have setting the channel on rear pannel of aktiv?
How much is the bass extension?
Hight of your stand?

(many others e-mail are follows but are not of common interesting)

Hi Massimo,
What do you think if I spraying paint on SL1000 body? Will it significantly ruin the sound? Or shall I use certain paint?
Is it enough to drive SL1000 with V20? I really love V20 sound.

regards,
Jioe

Hi Jioe
It is not advisable to use acrylic spray paints but only two-component paints that have greater adhesion and rigidity.
Only you can see if in your room the v20 is enough to drive the SL1000. :-)

Regards
Massimo

Hi Massimo,

What kind of paint the two components is? I dont really understand. Can you be more specifiic?

Is that some way SL1000 would be better than Box300?

Box300 already has incredible sound..

Regards

Jioe

Hi Jioe
I don’t know the composition of two components paint…it’s a professional paint for wood.
SL1000 need particular installation with four wall near to speakers (under 1,7m). It’s a loudspeaker that need a small room and a lot of patience for reach the better result.
But this can be over all traditional loudspeakers

Happy new year to you!

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I want to install it in my small bed room, around 2.8 x 4.75m, where I will put it on the wide side. Each left and right of the tv. I plan to make it close to the rear wall of it. Just like my Linn Kan  needs a back wall on my pic attached. Do you think it is correct?

Regards

JJ

Yes. There are necessary (probably) two paintings in wool as acoustic absorbers to put behind the speakers. Like these: http://motxam.interfree.it/notaresco.html

Hello, Which floor standing speaker do you recommend? Grundig 1500a or Grundig 2500a?

Thanks, Will

Hello Will
The best solution is always dependent to room dimension and type of installation.
I can advice to read with attention the loudspeakers installation:

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

My room is about 11 feet by 13 feet. Do you think the 1500a is better than 2500a? Do they both sound the same? I have several Grundig speakers, and they all sound very excellent. Why do Grundig speakers sound better than most other speakers?

Thanks, Will

All your questions are answered here http://motxam.interfree.it/

Read with care please.

Massimo

After reading this article on the website:

http://www.grundiglove.org/grundig-v1700/

I understand that the loudness control can never be switched out of the circuit!

And the V1700 was a faulty design in that is caused damage to loudspeaker tweeters.

If both are true then surely this cannot be a very good amplifier - yet you say it is? Please help me understand.

George

Dear George
The loudness (when
switched out) is not present on the V1700 because the mentioned network C708-R710 simply inserts a 1Mohm resistor parallel to the input (before the volume control) above 1000Hz and this, if the source that pilot the amplifier has an impedance lower than 10KOhm (as it normally happens) it does not involve any variation on the frequency response. Absolutely unfounded also the possibility of damaging the tweeters that is common to all the amplifiers when used in clipping. The only true limit of the V1700 is the sizing made only for nominal 8Ohm loads, which therefore forces attention to the heating when driving loads of 4Ohm otherwise it may break the amplifier and in this case the woofers (not the tweeters…) are also at risk.
The site to which you refer, founded by people without any technical expertise (ex members of our forum), reports many mistake as it is voted to combat the advice that for twenty years are present on my website. The network is unfortunately also this, a mixture of pride and envy. Care must be taken.

Dear Massimo what are the binding posts on your amp? Power? Integrated? Din or bare cable?

Bare cable.

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I hope you're fine !

I have a topic which is not very clear in my mind : the position of the cables !

Wheter or not the amplifier is on the ground, should I :

- put the cables on the ground ?
- put the cables on the ground with a carpet below ?
- hang up the cables ?

I currently put my cables on the ground (my Receiver also) but it seem's that if I put something between the cables and the ground the sound seems quite different !

Thanks in advance for your advises,

Best Regards
Franck

Hi Frank

All ok thank you

-Speakers cables ever on the ground

-Power (220V) cable of receiver on the ground…all others 220V cable with carpet below

-All signal cables with carpet below

I have a few questions. I hope that this is not a problem. I have a Grundig v 1700 Grundig box 650 prof, the original speaker cables Grundig (I also have a "vivanco hpfl 153 '5 meters), Grundig CD 7550 and the original Philips cinch.

I wonder if grundig box 650 should be on the BF1, or better on the counter. (As far from the wall). In your opinion, is better speaker cable grundig or vivanco? Is a good idea to make a cover of cotton to the speaker cable?

Marcin

Hi Marcin

It’s missing one information: how much the distance from your ear to wall behind you ?

Original Grundig cable is better that Vivanco, and better is listening box 650 with grilles…

Regards

Massimo

Distance of ear to wall behind is 1 metr.

Box 650 pro can BF1 to listen to, or better on the shelf?

Better on BF1 very near to rear wall but with drappes on this wall (see photo of italian forum here for example: http://hifi.forumup.it/ )
In your room will be better 850a and 1500a.

on your side in the technical tests, we can see that the V1700 should be +1 +1 bass and treble. Is the system of box 650 professor will be the same as the box 400?

“no carico” mean with box400 disconnect
“con carico” mean with box400 connect
V1700 should be +1 +1 bass and treble ever

Hello Massimo.

Maybe for you  is little surprising is I heard something about you 😊

I heard many good things about vintage grundig system, so decision make one for myself.

So far ordered amplifier Grundig Fine Arts A9000 and V1700 also bought from you cd 7500 ver.1

At this moment have  Dali 505 2 way 4 ohm speakers  92 db efficienty.

In future want to buy grundig 650 pro,850 pro or 1500pro speakers. But I need time to find somewhere in good condition with good price. I don’t know yet is it room which

that system want to put in,will be between 20 or 30 square metres. I not sure yet.

I suppose is v1700 could be to week for Dali that is why bought A9000

My question is:

A9000  probably still fitted oryginal STK3102 ver.4 (not coming yet) is it big risky connecting.

Dali. What is your opinion and what I could to do best at this moment?

Regards Darek

Dear Darek

A9000 is’t a CCI amplifier and sound very worse respect V1700, V7000, V7200 etc…

With your Dali loudspeakers you can use V7000, V7200 or V35 or some receiver “large series” Grundig…but when you know the room dimension I advise to search immediatly a right Grundig box.

Also use V1700 with 4 ohm speakers but not with high listening level…

Hello. I am your big fan of Polish.

I am a happy owner of the system GRUNDIG (v grundig 1700 CD 7550, the original cables)

Now I bought a wonderful Telefunken tl 800. Unfortunately, I had to replace some speakers (tweeter and woofer). After disconnecting the cables I do not mark it. Do you have any photos of the interior?

greetings

Hi Marcin

Do you find here the schematic: http://hifi.forumup.it/post-30915-hifi.html

Massimo

Hello. What is the best amplifier to TL 800? Grundig v 1700 is probably too little power. Maybe grundig v 7200? Or maybe something from the stable Telefunken? Telefunken 6040 opus? Maybe some sansui?

Hi Marcin
Tfk amplifier are not CCI…V7200 is good or also V7000 or some receiver Grundig 20-25-30-35 etc.

Hello,

Massimo I have a question. In your Telefunken TL 800 how long speaker cable you have? Do you have full length or you cut off to 4m?

Have a nice day

No cut cable for maintain the original state...

Hello,
Massimo, thank you for reply. Can I have one more question? My pair of TL 800 I bought from my colleague, who read somewhere in Internet, that he should cut off ori speaker cable to 4m length.... I'm so pissed off, becouse it's very hard to buy TL 800 with factory lengt speaker cable. Could you tell me, in what amplifier and cd I should start to listening these speakers? On LT/Grundig Day's in Ravenna I saw that TL 800 are playing with LT amplifiers.

Best wishes,

Barek

Hi Barek

All CCI amplifier are good to listen TL800…

However these speakers are not a “meeting speaker” but a “single listen speaker”

Regards

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

Hope you're fine.

I'm still interested by your last amplifier. I just wonder what could be the différence with my favourites Grundig : R25, 30 and 35 ( which sounds better with my ears than the v1700, R20, R45, 1020..)

The frequencies response is more streight with your amplifier, and I think it could be a first difference but may be there is some other différence ?, and by the way is your amplifier able to drive any kind of loudspeakers ?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Franck =

Hello Franck

The difference is partly in the linearity and partly because a LT amp is a NEW full CCI amplifier...
Objects that are 35 years old are often with chassis/circuit not like original CCI condition...and this cause a worse sound.

Hi there,

As i said on last mail, I bought v1700 and t1700.
My room is small so I think about grundig box 400 or 500 to buy, because you mentioned before that v1700 has impedance problem with box 300 to drive.
Can the v1700 drive box400 or 500 (not professional) without problem?

Thank you so much for your great information on your web site.

best regards,

Dear Lee
All best Grundig loudspeakers (4ohm) can be used with V1700 but...not to high listening level. You can buy some Grundig full CCI receiver (large series) or a V7000 - V7200 if you don't want impedance problems...

Massimo Ambrosini

I am trying to translate some of your recommendations - I seems you need to put the Grundig 1700 on the floor for best results. This looks ugly in the sitting room. Can I not just put it in a hi-fi rack?

Thank you.

V1700 (and V1850) are “CCI soft optimized”...only little difference if you put on rack.

Is the Sanyo JA-220 exactly the same amplifier as the Grundig V1700?

Or are there important differences?

Very similar

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

I found my box 1500a. Unfortunately I'm desapointed by the sound..my 300 or 500 boxes are better and the sound of the 1500a is ŕ little bit flat and slow. I know that the 1500a are famous and I think that I should may be change the capacitors in the filters.

The brand of Original capacitors in the filter is frako and I would like to have your advice for the new one, can I use mkp capacitors or did you advice another brand ?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Franck

Hi Frank

Please don’t change electrolytic capacitor with mkt or mkp...change only with bipolar electrolytic if you want don’t worse sound.

Are you sure there aren’t problems on tweeter work or on connections (phase)?

Tweeter must have phase inverted connection...check it.

Regards

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

Thanks a lot for your advices.

I have just a last question, you mentioned that you didn't advice a change of any electolytic capacitors but what about the capacitor used by the tweeter (serial capacitor) ?

I ask you this question, because I find the treble level a little bit low (and that's may be the origin of my problem with the 1500a).

Thank you.. and don't forget to visit France soon !

Regards

The mkt serial capacitor on tweeter haven’t never problems (don’t change it)...tweeters can have problems...

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

I'm from Barcelona,

I have recently acquired the Grundig 2500a speakers. I also own a Grundig xv7500 preamplifier in perfect working order.

I am thinking of getting a power amplifier to complete a Grundig chain. Could you advise me what is the best Grundig power amplifier?

I have not seen in the forum recommended Grundig power amplifiers.

.

Thanks in advance,

Joan xxxxx

Dear Joan

Grundig have make only one power amp the A5000 (period 1980-82) but this isn’t full CCI amplifier (only partial CCI)...if you want a full CCI power amp you can choose in the Linear Transfer production or use a Grundig integrated amp (like V7000) such as power amp.

Regards

Massimo Ambrosini

Dear Massimo,

I would like to know the price for Linear Transfer Mod of a pair of Grundig Aktiv Box 30.

I already use a Grundig V20 and Telefunken 710/1, they sound pretty good.

Is it going to be a sound quality improvement from V20 & 710/1 to Aktiv Box 30 & LT Mod?

Is it possible to use the Aktiv Box 30 & LT Mod as studio monitors (flat response, neutral and so on)?

Best wishes,

Daniel

Dear Daniel

Which is your source? A cd player Grundig?

The aktiv box must be choose in relation to room dimension…which are your room dimensions?

Aktiv mod LT are better of your actual system if you use a full CCI sorce…

Mod LT cost is 350eur

Best Regards

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

Thanks for your reply. The source is a rara avis, let's say a computer tuned for audio with a special DAC. Room dimensions will be around 20 square meters. Can the Aktiv Box 30 LT Mod sound equal or better than new studio monitors under $ 4,000? Can the Aktiv Box 30 LT Mod sound better than Grundig V20 + Telefunken TL 710/1?

Best wishes,

Daniel

Dear Daniel

I have listen some Genelec monitor (also over 4000$...), large dynamic but little delicacy and respect for the harmonics in the midrange that determine the poem that's in the music.
Grundig Aktiv box mod have dynamics but at the same time have a gentle sound.

If you goes in Italy to my home you can listen the aktiv standard version and the aktiv mod version: difference is 3D and gentleness.

Best Regards

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

Thanks for your kind offer about listenning speakers at your home. Right now I'm in Valencia (Spain) but planning to move for living to Zurich, in that case we will be closer. IMHO Genelec monitors are too bright, I don't understand how people can mix anything with them. Regarding the harmonics, which instruments will be better to listen for testing harmonics? I said that because there is an harmonium at my family which has been restored. It will be difficult to recorded it properly but maybe I can get some music already recorded.

Best wishes,

Dani

Normally I value the 3d and harmonics (two aspect of the same problem…) with acoustic guitar, voice and applause. At the moment I use frequently this:

Thank you very much for your quick reply!

I vacuumed the medium speaker and it was ok! Regarding the amplifier, I read on your website that V7200 in "only partially CCI", so not as good as V7000 or V1700. Now, V7000 I do not find on ebay, but I do find V1700 - does this one match the 2500a? Because I see it supports 8-16 ohm, and the speakers are 4 Ohm.

Thank you very much!

Tudor

You can match V1700 with 2500a if you don’t use high listen volume…

V7200 is another full CCI (I was in error in my old website note, correction in Italian forum here: http://hifi.forumup.it/viewtopic.php?t=2855&mforum=hifi ) and you can match without problems with 2500a…or also receiver 20-25-30-35-45 etc large series or the old sv700 and sv1200…all full CCI.

You can find also in our Italian forum markets:

http://hifi.forumup.it/viewforum.php?f=11&mforum=hifi

Regards

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I recently bought these speakers used. I would like to ask you some questions, if you are so kind to answer.

The medium speakers have their dome tilt in (pushed).. is it ok to use the vacuum cleaner to bring it back to the original shape?

Hi tudor

You can try...and also with adhesive tape.

Also, the original stands, how high should they be? 36 cm or lower? Can you recommend a good stand for them?

45cm...stand of bose 901 is perfect if you have box2500a near to rear wall. See also this:

http://hifi.forumup.it/viewtopic.php?t=858&mforum=hifi

I would also like to purchase an amplifier for these speakers and I have the possiblity of purchasing a Grundig SV1000 smaller amplifier (together with tuner ST1000). You think that is good fit for these speakers?

Thank you very much in advance,

Tudor

There are better amplifiers in old Grundig production years 75-79 or years 84-85.

You can search all receivers Grundig large series or amplifiers like V7000, V7200, V30 or some Grundig “compact” like rpc500-600-650 etc…

Dear Sir.
I am from Slovenia and would like to know if there will be some meetings this year-2014 in Italy or Austria, Germany... Just now I am looking to find some Grundig items on ebay which would build my new musical system... My room is app. 3,6x4 m and would like to know which boxes would be best in combination with CD 7500, V7000, PS1020, T7500 ( if I will be lucky ... ). I hope I could hear some day your presentation near Slovenia or maybe in Ljubljana if you have plans to come to our Hi-Fi show which is every year (also in Zagreb )... Thank you for your reply. Regards, Ales.

Hello Ales,

thanks for your e-mail. Next meeting will be 10th May 2014 in Ravenna (Italy). Let me know if you want to participate and I'll give you the exact address and some direction: you are welcome. For your room size, in case of bookshelf installation, I would suggest Grundig Box 300, 350 or 400; in case of stand installation Grundig Box Professional 650prof or 850a prof; in case of floor installation Grundig SL1000. At the moment, there are no plans for presentations in Slovenia ot Croatia but, if you can collect some other poeple interested in my meeting, I will try to organize it.

Best regards

Massimo

Dear Mr. Massimo.

Thank you for answer last time...

I was quite active on ebay to find the best from what you suggest... I hope in a short time I will complete my Grundig system and than enjoy in that transparent music...

Here I am asking you to check attached pdf file - my room and give me your opinion about speakers to fit...

I always like to read on forum about Grundig story...and CCI... I like your approach to the subject... :-)

Warm regards from Slovenia.

Almost "Grundig" Ales... :-)

Hello Ales

For good results in your room you can test 650prof , 300, 400 or SL1000

Dear Massimo!

Everything works perfect now, thank you again:)) I have two question, can I send you amplifiers removed from active box 40 for CCI modification or you need the whole speakers? They are heavy:).

What would be best dvd with usb and maybe wifi for cci mod that you know of?

Regards and all the best for the family with coming Easter! Pawel.

Dear Pawel

I usually listen aktiv box after the CCI modify... :-)

For cd player this is a very good solution for CCI mod.:

I searched your Grundig Story, but I dont understand italian, so I dont know if I get it right… I dont understand if you were saying the V5000 is good or bad (the same goes for V1000, 2000) ?

If yes you don’t need other for cd reproduction…

Hello.

It's a great pleasure to read about you dicoveries on your website.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I'm currently looking for an amplifier/receiver for my system. I was

considering Grundig R35.

Do you think it's a good choice for Grundig 650 Professional speakers

and PS1020 gramophone?

If not, what else would you recommend?

I'd prefer to have the radio tuner and amp in one box, but if it's a

bad solution then I'm willing to buy them separately.

Thank you in advance and warm greetings from Poland,

Michal xxxxx

Hello Michal

Receiver 35 is a great solution if not tampered...

Good listen to you!

Massimo Ambrosini

Thank you for your recommendation.

Just one more thing I wanted to know.
I have the Shure M85g head on PS1020 and am looking for the right needle for it.
I couldn't find the original, but I found a replacement N91g - that has a spherical cut and weights 3 grams.
Is it the right one? Is the weight appropriate?

Regrds,
Michal

The original needle for M85G is N91G (made in USA...not made in Mexico...) that have with tracking force range 0.75 - 1,25gr.

For best sound you can set 0,75gr.

Other possible needle is N75GT2...have the same moving equipment

Good morning,
Unfortunately my cd7550 is quiet this morning. In the midle of a song, the 7550 stopped to play.
I know that we can may be fix it, but for the moment it's paintfull ! I cannot listen music..
I'm a grundig lovers and leaves in France. I wonder if You can sell me a lt cd player in order to replace my grundig.
Thanks in advance
Regards

Franck xxxx

Dear Franck
I modify several cd player models with CCI implementation. You can choose a model and the modify cost (independent of model choose) is 500 eur. The result is the same (if frequency response is flat...) a full CCI cd player (and with remote control!).
I advice like basic to modify some models of Marantz cd player like (for example) this http://motxam.interfree.it/cd6004.html

Dear Massimo is grundig box active 50 as good as 40 and 30?

Pawel.

Dear Pawel
On Aktiv 50 must doing a little modify DIY for improve it and reach similar result like aktiv 40: the frontal grill is fixed to box with 6 pressfit grill-guides...you must remove (from grill) the two pressfit present in middle point of grill.
However I advice the aktiv box only with CCI mod...there is a big difference...you can find comment on Italian forum...
Without mod CCI I advice much more the passive solution.

Dear Massimo

Lats night i came across your webpage, great reading. Frankly i stay on it

for a few hours reading and searching for Grundig gear.I know about old Grundig amplifiers ,good sound for little money. Even today some Grundig
stuff can be found in Serbia. I found Grundig 650B loudspeakers ,i am
thinking of buying them,i hope they can be used with mine 6C33C tube

amplifier 2x12watts. What is your opinion,i dont know nothing about 650B

impedance graphs and sensitivity, hope they are not heavy load for tube amplifier. Also hope they can be used on stands? I see they are bookshelf

but i dont think they can be put inside some shelf,or?

Here on the link below you can see those 650B,any advise from you is welcome.

On picture you can see mine tube amplifier.

Best regards. Dejan xxxx Serbia.

Dear Dejan

650b are 4 ohm loudspeakers...like to your amplifier?

Regards

Massimo

Dear Massimo
Thanks for reply. I already tried my amp with few 4 ohm big loudspeakers and it drive em very well,6c33c tubes can drive heavy loads due to their low internal resistance and also can deliver good current. Btw o can buy in Serbia Grundig r35,v1000, V2000 and other Grundig amps for 25-45 euros.
I hope 650 b is good stuff, will hear em next week. Do you know. That in one hotel in my town, there are almost 100 audiorama speakers hanging from the ceilings of halls, restaurants etc.
Rgds. Dejan.

If you can buy Receiver35 I think that you don’t connect more your tube amp...:-)

Massimo

Hi Massimo

Apart from other amps and speakers i ve just saw this ,offered

for 150 euros.

Preciever xc65 with 1500 active boxes.

I guess its worth buying?
http://www.kupujemprodajem.com/Grunding-xc65-7806583-oglas.htm?filter_id=33747685

Rgds. Dejan.

Xc65 is excellent preceiver but frequently defective...check functioning if possible...

Massimo

Ok,thanks
So it seems R35 is better solution? I see that you dont like tube amps:) i also think active boxes also can have parts that are aged, like power supply capacitors.
Btw my wife is now enjoying in San Remo on medical meeting
while i am freezing at home,no heating till tomorrow.
Rgds. Dejan

Receivers are one of better Grundig full CCI solution...If you will compose a full CCI system (with also CCI source) you will thanks me :-)

Hello,

Just to share something with you.
Yesterday i went to visit a high end audio shop in The Hague (Netherlands) to listen to a 150.000 euro hifi set and Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon.
The guy who owns the shop also has a Pink Floyd band and he played last evening at the Peace Palace 100 year opening event, which was really good..
However, i listened to the whole record in the shop. Although the sound was good with a wide, deep and high soundstage, it sounded compressed especially for mid/high frequencies. The high hat determines the whole timing of Dark Side of the Moon and it sounded flat and distorted.
When i came back home i listened to the whole CD on my Aktiv 50 Professional, CD 35 set up (no Grundig preamplifier yet unfortunately) and the difference was like day and night.
My setup has cost me about 200 euro and it beats the 150.000 high end set (see picture) hands down. The difference is in musicality and especially emotion.
The other difference is that the audience of people in the room didn't express any emotion at all. The live concert was much better!
Now i am going to invite the owner of the shop to my house and let him listen. He is a very nice guy, wonder what he will say.

Ciao

Göran

Hi Goran

I know the difference...:-))

My curiosity: you have connect cd35 to aktiv but…how you change the listen volume?

If in next time you want goes to Italy for holiday contact me… I will make you listen aktiv50 full CCI mod…another great step ;-)

Dear Massimo,

I am a long-time fan of You from Poland. After reading Your website I've decided to give a try to Grundigs. Currently I Have Grundig V4080, Grundig Box 850a and I am also using Apple AirPort. Couple days ago I've bought Grundig PS 1020. Unfortunately it turned out that stylus is not original and broken (Cartridge is  Shure M85G).  Any Idea where to buy original stylus (perhaps You have some for sale?). Can I connect my turntable directly into V4080 or should I use preamp (I am short on cash as I am not working yet, currently studying)? Grundig PS 1020 has DIN output and V4080 has RCA input so I bought DIN/RCA adapter - will this be a huge quality loss?

Greetings,

Marcin xxxxxx

Dear Marcin

You can use adapter din/rca for your ps1020 like this for exemple:

http://www.ebay.it/itm/Hama-Audio-Adapter-2-RCA-Male-External-Ground-Lead-5-pin-DIN-Female-/350701477961?pt=DE_TV_Video_Audio_Sonstige&hash=item51a76fe049.

But don’t use ground wire…the ground screw (with 2 washers) must be even loosened than 1/4 of a turn for best results.

If you want connect the ground wire you can doing to another screw…

For original stylus I sell only with turntable but you can find on market of Italian forum…

Hello!

Dear Massimo I have another question to You:

What do You think - Is it necessary to use low-pass analog filter after D/A conversion with oversampling in DIY cd player when I connect it to CCI amplifier?

I think that CCI eliminates HF frequencies from signal, but I wanto to make sure...

Thank you for Your site, it's very helpfull!

Regards from Poland!

Dear Sebastian
Before a CCI amplifier you need a CCI cd player...

Dear Massimo,

I am 60 years old now and have just read your website. I live in Malta and Finally I have found someone who discovered these Gem Amplifiers!!

Massimo, 40 years ago when I was 20, I was changing amplifiers like crazy. I became friends with a dealer who used to allow me to take home and try Sansui, Pioneer, Yamaha, etc.. always top of the line models. But I was never satisfied. There was something which kept me changing and trying. All these would amplify base at 100HZ and treble at 10K, useless controls too to adjust a little to make up for room acustics and recording issues. Besides the sound sounds clean but with no debt and metallic.

I used to visit Hanover Fair every year and once stayed with a family, Peter was the husband and Karen the wife, Bianka and Dirk the kids.

I heard music in the background which sounded like I never heard before. Where are the speakers, I asked myself ? Where is the amp?

The speakers were on the window sill hidden behind a curtain. The first time I saw two really small Grundig Boxes.

The amp was in a cupboard, a small R35. I could not believe the sound was coming from those two small boxes.

God! I asked Peter if I could put the volume up a bit, and I could not believe my ears!

I went to Grundig Agent, I saw and heard the R45 with Box 1500 and 2500 (not active)

I read the R45 User manual and for the first time in my life (I am en electronics eng. City & Guilds 433 in Electronic Systems) I saw test which made sence to me.

A)     Distortion is measured from the pre amp in to the speaker out. i.e. the preamp which is the most important is included in the equation.

B)     Distortion is measure at 40HZ, 2000HZ and 20,000HZ and this amp would give you .02 all the way up to 55RMS at any frequency from 40 to 20K.

The Japanese at the time, even the best would give you distortion at 1k and the preamp is never included in the tests.

I hear it. Oh God! This is the sound I had been looking for, for many years!

Also see attached for imputs TA, TB, Bass/Mid/Tb controls etc.

THIS IS THE SOUND I ALWAYS WANTED

Since then, the arguments I had with many dealers and friends of mine are endless.

Same as you, I invite anyone who want to bring his amp and speakers to my home ad do tests.

My friend the Dealer, once brought the best Pioneer 999 and the best Bose speakers he had.

Close but not quite,  – the base would not go down as smooth as silk as the Grundig Amp/Speaker combination can be at the lower ends.

And the treble dimention or spaciousness and harmonics would not extend to the top end and were not so sharp, smoothly and clear either.

However after doing some test I discovered the following;

ONE:

If I feed the pre amp output of the R45 into the Main Amp of the Pioneer and still use the Bose Speakers – the sound of Pioneer/ Bose combination would sound almost identical to the Grundig R45/Box 2500 combination !!!

Some 10 years ago, with the introduction of DVD and Dolby 5.1, I bought a Yamaha A1. It is a good amp but no good for stereo. Sound fields make the music sound like rubbish!

In stereo, Base depends on the support of a sub woofer, midrange is reasonable but the high end is not acceptable to me.

It is good for watching and hearing DVD films with Bombs, Planes and Cars rushing all the way around the room!!!!!

For Music it is a hopeless investment and a waste of money.

TWO:

Anyway, I did the same test. I fed the R45 preamp into the Yamaha a1 left and right channels (effects off.)

Believe me, the main amp of the Yamaha is a good amp. (not pre amp)

I changed the Yamaha A1 rear setting to 4 ohms and connected the Grundig 2500 speakers.

You get the same clean and clear spacious musicality of the Grundig and it has the capacity to drive

both the base drivers at 40HZ nicely, midrange is clean and clear and beautiful too, and any treble at 15K and harmonics above are reproduced as easily as the Main Amp of the Grundig R45.

Please share with me if my conclusions are correct.

I have read your explanation of CCi.

But I do not know what CCI really means technically – and would sincerely appreciate if you can explain in technical language the details,

because I have been curious all my life about what makes my R45 so special.

I also think that it is the “Pre Amp” of the Grundig which is the KEY to the beauty of the sound which makes these Grundig old units unique.

Am I right.

Graphs;

I attach the graphs of the R45 – not how the distortion at 40, 2k and 20K remains negligible all the way up to 55RMS.

My other question is, if I may take more of your valuable time;

Which Pre-amp and/or Amplifier in the Grundig range is better than my R45?

Is the V5000 or the V7000 or the V1700 better than my R45?

My R45 is absolutely to blue print speck. And when one of the output stages failed, I replaced the pair with one that are full speck, same as the originas, which I ordered specially since no one stocks them in Malta. . I have now bought a second hand R45 from e-bay too for 100Euros – so parts are not a problem either.

Massimo, all the best to you and your work.

I have the Original manuals and the original circuit diagrams of the R45 and the 2500Professional a speakers.

If you should need copies, I will gladly send them to you.

Joe

Dear Joe

The problem's solution that I have called CCI are not correlated with harmonic classic distorsion but with HF intermodulation distorsion. The chassis problems that Grundig have (like me) solved in 1974-1985 period is present in all electronics chassis and is the first cause for a good or bad sound.

You can read with care my website for more info.

Best Regards

Massimo Ambrosini

I have bought from e-bay 2 x  Box850 Active, which have not been delivered yet.

This is because I had already a Grundig SXV 6000 pre-amp.

1)      But is the SXV 6000 good for driving the Active Boxes?

2)      Or should I buy the Grundig 55X?  Because at the moment there are 2 x 55X for sale on e-bay.

Which is the better of the two for driving active boxes.

What I wish is a sound which is as good or better than the R45a which I have with Grundig normal Boxes.

Take care and all the best.

Joe

The better is XV7500…same circuit of SXV6000 but more advanced CCI (and then better sound).

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

I have a question about amplifier Grundig V4080.

Is it the same as V1700?

Not the same but very similar...

Dear Massimo,

I was very pleased within your site and all that you said about Grundig. I am 50 y. old and has more than 25 y. experience within our hobby. My last system is Kuzma Stabi II, Stogi Ref. VDH Frog Gold, AUdible Illusions M3A, Pass Aleph 5 and Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor speakers ( I. model). Some times ago I refreshed and serviced Grundig TK 145 De Luxe mag from 1967. and find out it has specific sound that is choesistent and very real. A also bought Grundig Satellit 208, and find out that it is outstandig tranzistor. So at last I purchesed Grundig Box 550 Professional, that I hope to receive this days. Please let me know something abotu that model of Grundig speakers, and what is a reason that Grudig speakers like to look Grundig amp and other equpiment from that time. Friend fo mine that has great experience in audio and professional audio said to me that old model of amplifiers from that time had some equiliser within volume control that added some bas exstension so that could be one of reason why Grundig speakers from that time play in such manned that best suited to Grundiq equipment. Please let me know what is original conection of speakers terminal on BOX 550.

Best regards,

Dean, Croatia

Dear Dean,

please read carefully my website and you will find a lot of useful informations. Most of Grundig hifi components from 70ies to 80ies they are engineered and built in a special way and they have some technical solutions that nobody today is able to pair.

This is the reason why their sound is the best I've ever found in any commercial hifi, even compared to the most expensive high-end systems that I've tried myself (see my website for the complete list).

None of the Grundig amplifiers that I suggest in my website has some equalizer within volume control to add some bass extension. They have a standard (for those years) Loudness selector  but you have just to leave it unselected.

Box 550 is a two-way speaker for medium-small room with standard DIN connectors. If you want to listen seriously to a pair of Grundig speakers you must drive them with the suggested components and cables (V7000, V35, V1700, CD7500, PS1010, PS1020).

In my website you can find informations and hints in order to complete a Grundig hifi system and achieve the best sound.

Regards

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

You are right when mentioned old school like Grundig story and others brand from that period like 1975. till to 1985. I started to interested in hifi in that manner latter mostly during the 1985.y At first I started within Sansui and KEF REf 101 model speakers and as I could remmebered Marantz 65 MKII. That was enough good sound that I didn't know to recognised in such way. As I already mentioned my present system, i find out that I spent many many times and money to start thinking that I just made circle, and now after more tha 25 y. in hi fi occupation find out that Grundig was such succes story than and now. So as I wrote last time I bought GRUndig Box 550 Profesional in good condition, and after that few days ago purchased Grundig R200 receiver. I occour some broom- buzzing  in both canel in the begining of turn on unit, and after some minutes that broom- buzz  expire. I think that could be reason old caps that should be replaced. Do you have any sugestion which type of caps or old parth could be recommended for replacing in that case. I find out that sound of that combination R200 and 550 Profesionall is preaty plesent and more than that.

Best regards and thanks in advance for reply,

Dean, Croatia

Try to keep on the receiver for 2/3 days....often this is solution…

Regards

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

Please let me know what range of Grundig receiver gama is model R200. Is it inferior to models R30 R35 or similar series?

Best regards and thanks in advance,

Dean, Croatia

Yes

Massimo

Hi,
I'm very fan of grundig speakers, even if I own only two models: super hifi-box 650 and 850.
I just opened the 850 to check the crossovers, and I was very amazed by the quality of most components of it, especially selfs, that are big and nice built. But capacitors are from Frako, which is definitely not the best caps you can find... so I was intending to replace those, because I really like a lot those speakers, but I think they could sound even better once recaped.

And I found your website, and the mysterious footnote, warning that one never should modify Grundig products... so what about recapping the crossovers?? Any specific reason not to do so? I did this already one several other speakers, with great results...

Thanks for your input,

Gauthier

Hello Gauthier,

Grundig hifi-box 650 and 850 ("a" version) are some of the best speaker ever built.

They sound amazing when driven by a Grundig chain (look at my webpage http://motxam.interfree.it/Agrundig.html for informations about amps and sources to use), better than any "high-end" loudspeaker today on the market.

I suggest to NOT recap their crossover: these Grundig speakers are going to sound worse if recapped. I suggest to recap ONLY in case some cap is faulty or drifts excessively in capacitance value.

Regards

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

you know what? I feel very stupid!!

I removed the original speaker terminator a few months ago to put in place some standard (cheap)

Others terminations (different to standard point-line) are very worse on sound...

to allow connect the speakers with any kind of cable... and I'm wondering know if I did not reverse the wires!

There is one yellow and one black, and it looks like bass are far better when I connect the cable using the yellow cable as negative and black as positive. But as far a I remember, I paid attention to the way wires should have soldered on the replacement terminator... do you have by any chance an advice to check that without opening the speakers? I'd like not to open them too often, to keep the wool inside in a good placement...

Thanks by advance ;)

Gauthier

You can connect a 1,5Volt battery: when woofer cone comes out the battery + corresponds to positive polarity of speakers.

what is linear transfer mod? is it possible for a philips cd 650?
i found your webpage through google images search for grundig cd7550.
i am offered this cd player with no oversampling mod and a lot of upgraded components. have you experience with no oversapling for the grundig?
i have a philips cd 650 and very much like the sound. it is modified with no oversamoling and other components. i like it better than a no oversampling modified sony 227esd. and it plays in a different world than battery powered monica usb dac. my amplifier is luxman l-410.
speakers teufel m200. i like my stereo setupvery much so far but my one concern is the digital playback. good vinyl lps on a rega p2 with soundsmith smmc4 cart sounds nicer and realer or alive...than cd.
can you offer a cd960 with LT mod?
best regards and greetings from berlin.
leo

Hello Leonard

the Linear Tranfer modification is a technical update made by myself and it is possible for the most of the cdplayers. This modification involves deeply the chassis of the equipment and it requires the maximum linearity and transparency by all the hifi chain. This is the reason why the zero oversampling does not match well the LT mod. For the same reason I strongly suggest to complete the hifi chain with LT amplifiers/speakers or some old Grundig amplifiers/speakers featuring a similar chassis technique, see my website for further details.

Hello

I bought some sonny Cd (to make some DIY) from one guy from my neighborhood.

I met this guy I know that he is a bigger audio freak then I :-)

We agreed that we love some vintage audio, and he said to me only Grundig man, only German stuff or Sanyo :-) If you don't believe me listen and visit http://motxam.interfree.it :)))

So I visited your site and read about this Grundig stuff and I'm interested in it :)

I know I got some occasion to buy Grundig V35 and I got some question.

Is there any chance that I will hear the difference using the Grundig CCI with an old non CCI speakers and CD? Or should I transform all audio to CCI.

This is quite important to me because if I have to modify all audio equipment I'll not buy this Grundig but if there is any chance to "feel" the difference I'll buy it.

I will by very grateful for your help

great site

Best regards

Hello

If we imagine to take a look at a landscape through some windows (each of them represents a component of your hifi system), we will see perfectly the landscape only if EACH window is completely transparent, undistorted and uncoloured. Just one distorted window can compromise and damage irrevocably the result. This is the reason why I suggest to listen to a system composed entirely by Grundig or Linear Transfer components!

For others occasions I answer only to e-mail signed.

Hi!
Reading your web site converted me to Grundig, after I had luck buying Grundig box 250 by pure coincidence. Recently I've had luck and bought v7000 with t7000. Now, I would like to find 650box proffesional, to substitute 250box.
Looking for other Grundig products, I've stumbled across Sanyo JA220 with JT230L tuner for cheap and wanted to hear it.
1. Well, it arrived in the mail, but I don't know is it safe to connect 4ohm 250 box on it? I've tried, just to hear is it working, but I don't want to burn it. Anyway, the sound was not satisfying (although only for 10 seconds before I disconnected them).
2. And another question - reading many posts on Sanyo ja220 vs Grundig v1700, I'm still not clear is Sanyo full CCI, or is it inferior to V1700.
So far, I like what I hear from Sanyo JA220, altough it's connected to some small Nordmende plastic speakers (it's the only one I have that are 8 ohm).
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of super super Grundig products.

Best regards
Kresimir Hxxxx

Hi Kresimir
You can drive the box 250 with ja220 but with high volume can risk to damaging the amp.
The ja220 is very similar to v1700 and full CCI if it wasn't repaired or tampered

for more then 40 years i am an audio enthusiast and melomane and music player, had for 5 years even an audio shop in brussels with 2hand equipment and even new , so after years of trial and error and hearing some amplifiers sounding realy bad ...i must agree with your experiences of most of yours and made some musician very happy with active box 40s but the v7000 on tads 1102 with heil tweeters play even better, and so went out a bel canto evo6 that cosed 5000 euros...against the 100 euros for the grundig, the only amp that came close was a rogers valve el84 i will soon test the grundig amps on very high efficiency speakers so to avoid clipping at high levels, but to be frankly since i listen to the grundigs i listen more relaxed at low levels and hear all the details, with the bel canto it was like lots of the mics were distorting or clipping!!!and i got nervous and thought it was a problem on the records or the radio but no with th v7000 all came in harmony ,you cannot tell if its a transistor or valve here , even the bass is tremendous quality for such a small amp amazing, i use a camtech 8000q aspassive volume with remote so i have that convenience, and also used a passive active cross over from cerwin vega that filters the amps at 250 hz to drive subs from jbl or atc with amazing results, it was far better then the quad 606 who is rated more watts....there is something with the timbre of the instruments and the scale that is magic and very realistic, and that is missing in most of the amps....25 years ago i had the electrocompaniet class a who was musical beyond the competition, the audio research classic 60 with yamaha ns1000ms had some qualities aswell but still since i am on the grundig v7000 i have 5 of them ,i dropped the search for others i also have the ps 1020 to test , and curious about the cd's,for now i am running with sony 557 esd and rega io....
so you crazy italien freak most will thingk but for my ears you have made a big point , and when i am rich i will buy your amplifiers gladly to test them and would even be glad to sell them to other audiofreaks old clients customers ...i wish you lots and congratulations for such courage to make these statements completely non snobisch and honoust and dam rigcht its looks a bit like the hulda clark protokol in the medical who cures 95% of cancers with herbs etc but its so cheap nobody wants to apply it greets and hope to meet you one day a life soon
bart xxxxxx belgium

Thank for your beautiful e-mail. I am happy that you have appreciate my work.

Massimo

yes Massimo

you are a great person , because honoustly i was too snob to test an amplifier that even has no wbt speaker output...and din connections lots of even experienced audiofreaks would pass for it and even not truy it out, but since your opinion on the other equipment is about the same then i experienced like for the rogers or the quads or the B&W's and the krell , i took it more serious and tried it out another well sounding litlle amp is the myst it worked even better with the rogers ls3/5a then the classic 60...but i never tried the grundig on them since its fairly new these experiences , and i test about one year before i put out an opinion , i also appreciate the site of the polish who modifies cd outputs but didn't truy yet these modifications , except that i like the atc's the mid dome is amazing and what so strange with a grundig amp that i listen at more easy listeninglevels so my neighbours are happy , its so clear and high resolution that you don't need to push the volume loud you can imagine how deceived i am with amplified concerts most of the time horrible , distorted and way too loud since i go to concerts with acoustic instruments like big symphonies from the year of 5 i am used too good sound , the grundig activ 40 i sold at a friend who is building violins ...he was astonished by the accuracy of the timbre, he works together with my cousin who is a professioal violin player and plays aswell on a guarnerius and also has an absolute hearing so we are all very critical , i ll let you know more after testing with a 105db/w horn system my regards bart

  < id="table86">

Dear Massimo,

I find that the sound of the amp is much better after upgrading. The sound is more body and very detailed. Vocal and instrument sounds are now more real. I can feel that the music has more rythms and is more alive.

The new volume control is also much better than the original one. The sound levels from the left and right channels are now very balanced even at very low level. I think this also improves the whole picture of the music and the image. I hope the new volume control can keep this good working condition.

I have also tried the Milty connector and it works fine.

I am very satisfied with the sound of the upgraded amp. Can you advise whether the upgrading involves change of electronic and/or improvement on the CCI application. I note that there is a new "foot" at the bottom of the amp.

Do you recommend to keep the amp "on" at all time? I find that the sound of the amp is much better 3 to 4 hours after switched on, though the sound is already very good just after switched on.

I would like to thank you very much for this upgrade and the replacement of the volume control. I will play more different kinds of music and let you know more of my listening feeling later.

Best Regards,
Michael

...the music has more rythms and is more alive.

This is the plus of full CCI technologies... music more alive! :-)

Do you recommend to keep the amp "on" at all time?  I find that the sound of

I think that isn’t necessary...five minutes before listening is sufficient.

I would like to thank you very much for this upgrade and the replacement of

the volume control. I will play more different kinds of music and let you

know more of my listening feeling later.

I am happy :-).

Dear Sirs,

I keep reading your Blog.

But still wish to ask one question.

If we were to choose speakers from Grundig brand, then what is the preferred speaker for MA10wifi, V7000 and V1700

I just know that V1700 requires speaker with impedance 8 or more. I am also aware that particular model speaker is dependant on size of room.

But you can advise the readers like me to guide about matching speaker.

Dear Kiran
There isn’t “preferred matching” between amps/speakers full CCI…there is only “preferred matching” amps/speakers/room dependent to power needed and right type of speakers for your room. The V1700 haven’t problems to drive some 4ohm speakers but not all models: v1700 frequently breaks to drive box 300…but no problems with box2500a for example.
However all others full CCI Grundig amps have been made to drive 4 ohm speakers…

I get a feeling that (V7000 and Box 300) and (XV-7500 & aktive 40) are your favourite combinations. Am i right?

So what is the matching speaker for MA10wifi? is it DSL? But DSL is expensive. We want something from Grundig range.

And i also get a feeling that V1700 is your favourite integrated. So request you to guide matching speaker from Grundig.

I am asking the above for my friend who is also obsessed with your CCI.

Aktive 40 is my next buy. I am saving money for it.

Best Regards

Kiran Vaidya

About “full CCI amps” there isn’t difference about “matching speakers”…I haven’t a feeling about a specific Grundig amp, many Grundig models are full CCI : all are very transparent and all have a frequency response very independent to load (you can see technical tests )…only a little difference is present between LT amps and Grundig amps: on Grundig amps you can’t be excluded the tones (only Grundig preamplifiers have this possibility)...for this reason frequency response on LT is more flat (a little bit advantage however…)

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Sirs

After long gap i am writting to you.

I was busy with my household matters like school admission etc.

Yesterday for the first time i heard PS-1020 with NOS n75 GT2 at 0.75 force.

Fortunately i was able to buy NOS N91G(grey), N91GD(red) from ebay.

I also bought used N75GT2 here locally. So now i have 3 spare cartridges.

Apart from above, i have bought one cartridge made in mexico at ebay also.

Your remarks about this turntable is spot on. The turntable sounds extremely good.

I have no words to express them. I can not say they sound best in the world but certainly at this price they sound best in the world.

I request you to post my email on your "communication" section so the readers can get true feedback.

You had suggested me Xv-7500 and i bought it. The experience was amazing. I am using it everyday.

Your suggestion ps-1020 is also perfect. Extremely good.

Now i still have v7000 or v1700, 7500 tuner, Cd-7500 or 7550 and aktive 40 on my wishlist.

Unfortunately my financial position is not that great. But once i am better off i wish to buy Aktive 40.

This message is for expressing sincere thanks to you.

Best Regards

----------------------

Dear Sirs

I saw Aktive 40 at ebay germany item number 150618596510

Do you think i should bid?
Do you have CD-7500 or v7000?

Best Regards

Kiran

Dear Kiran

How you can read on my website:

I recommend mostly aktiv mod.LT to passive solution (box850a/1500a/2500a) with amp LT (and I say it versus my interest) while, conversely, if you leave the aktiv "standard" (with no CCImod.) I recommend mostly the passive series + Grundig or LT amplifier (full CCI).

>Do you have CD-7500 or v7000?

Not for sell.

The only Grundig models that I have to sell are PS1020 and XV7500 because I use them for complete LT systems.

Regards

Massimo

Dear sirs,

Thanks for your email.

I am fully aware that CCI is necessary for aktive 40. i was saying bidding and sending it to you for CCI.

This particular pair of aktive look in very good condition.

I will always listen to you because my experience of Xv-7500 and ps-1020 was excellent.

Best regards

Kiran

I bought Grundig v1700, it function with no problem, but I realized it was repaired sometime in the past. There are changed components on one channel, near output transistors.
Changed are resistors, small transistors and some caps. Amplifier still works fine, there is no audio difference between channels. Is it still CCI? Is it ruined in terms of CCI?

Dear Edin

It’s difficult to say if it’s still CCI...repairs aren’t all good…

I also have V1850. It is in original state, no repairs and works with no problems. What amplifier is your sugestion to use with my speakers which are 650 Professional in room about
18m2? Also, I am unable to put 650 Pro. on bookshelf, they are on stands made of MDF. Should I put them near to wall to get best results?

Yes, but for your room I advice Box850a or box1500a.

I use PC as sound source. I made Atom based PC, totaly silent, without any fan, connecetd to my DIY DAC (using output trafo's instead of opamps). I put PC components in old Technics amplifier case, so it look as hifi component. Is PC as source of signal is problem for Grundig CCI setup? I am pleased with sound, but wonder could I extract more performnce?

There is a great difference if source is not CCI…the better solution that I have heard for pc source is the Apple Airport integrated in a full CCI LT MA10 amplifier. However if you are curious of listen difference between full CCI source and your, you can buy a Grundig full CCI cd player on e-bay .

Massimo

Dear Massimo!

It's a long time since our meeting. I still spend a lot of time with grundig, but recently me and my friends have transfered our records collections to hard drive and we tried to play them through Foobar and laptop. Do you know any simple external DAC which would work with CCI equipment corectly,  or at least in the best possible quality?

My cd's I play with grundig but I have many of them from my friends - that's wat can be played with external DAC. Maybe You did some CCI modiffication to an comercially aviable DAC?

How to get best sound from laptop and CCI grundig?

Regards! pawel.

Dear Pawel

How are you?

The only solution full CCI that I purpose for lovers of “liquid music” is the integration of MA10 with Apple Airport:

http://motxam.interfree.it/Alineartransfer.html

The solution with a DAC mod CCI is possible but the system is not full CCI when you connect with wire a source no CCI to DAC CCI.

Cd players full CCI are still a bit better of Airport integrated on MA10 but no so much.

Best Regards

Massimo

Hello!

I'm really OK! I wonder if connecting airport to pre 7500 would also be possible or it need special modiffication? How would work  the airport alone? Did you try it?

Thanks for fast response!:)

Do you have any active box 40 with modiffication for sale?

Once again - thanks a lot!!!

With Airport direct to xv7500 you obtain a partial CCI sound.

I have aktiv40 mod LT but are you sure that it’s the right box for your room? Do you have a big room with listening point distant to rear wall?

Best Regards
Massimo

Hi!

I think my room will be ok, but I still think I wait for DSL:), just thinking all the time. My  seat is 1.5 m from rear wall. room is ca. 30 square m.

Has LT 10 enough power to drive DSL? I have other quotations but what would be cost of LT 10 with air port?

Is this a big loss of quality with air port alone?

Again many questions!!!? Thats all started with you:) Many thanks again!! Say hello to your familly!!

Ok in this room aktiv40 is ok if you put its near to rear speaker wall.

MA10 airport 50W /ch with phono have a cost of 2300eur.

Airport is switch off (must swich off…is present another switch on rear panel of amp) when you listen others inputs. MA10 haven’t problems with DSL. However if in a later time you would past to solution XV7500+LT power amp (MA50 or MA100) I value the retreat of MA10 at the same price that you pay to me.

Airport integrated isn’t a big loss respect a full CCI cd player (cd7500 or CD960 mod LT) but however is present a loss…but at the moment I don’t know a better solution of this for “liquid music”. It is also important that the pc is supply to battery for best solution.

Dear Sirs

Any preferece or information you can share about 7550 and 7500?

Should i buy any of the two?

Regards

Kiran

Cd 7500 is made with interconnect cable...this can be a preference for choose this model.

Best Regards

Massimo.

Good evening Massimo,

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry, I hadn't seen this page about cable. I've tried to find the reference GBC mod. CA 201, but I can't find it on the web. The only reference I find with CA 201 is from Real Cable ( http://www.real-cable.com/par-produits/audio/stereo-rca/ca-201-details-73.html ). Is it the reference you talk about, or is another reference? Actually I can't find GBC cables on google...

The GBC cable have changed name...now have only a code :

http://www.gbconline.it/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=45666&category_id=831&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

About the speaker, would you use the hama over the vivanco, since I've found both on internet. Could you tell me the exact reference of the 0.75mm hama?

Thank you again,

Sebastien xxxxxx

Now i have following things on my wish list

1. PS1020 with cover + M85G + N75GT2 (original Shure NOS) checked CCI = 400eur
Please offer some discount.

What happens if N75GT2 breaks? do you have spare? if yes, what is the Price?

Sorry but I can’t offer discount on this turntable...I think to upper ( in a short time) price because the original stylus for M85G ( the N91G or the equivalent N75GT2 ) are very very rare stylus. This is the only big problem of this top music enjoy turntable…very rare find original stylus. I can supply only one stylus for each turntable…for others stylus you can search on ebay.

2. V1700 Integrated and Speaker 300

Per your last mail, we should buy from ebay Germany and send to it you. This is ok. Please advise your Shipping address. It it difficult to ship to Italy? Any precaution/instruction i have to request the seller? About declared value ? how mush should value should i request? Any problem of Custom duty? How long does it take to reach you from Germany?

Do you do CCI test on Speaker model 300? if yes, how much is fees?

There are no customs between countries of the European community, no problems for shipping Germany to Italy.

I don’t advice V1700 to drive box300 for impedance problems: frequently V1700 broken with box 300…

If you want box 300 I advice V7000, V20, V30, all large series receivers etc.

However box 300 have need a very little room and put on a shelf….and experience with Grundig products…it’not a easy speaker for starting…

3. Aktive 30 or 40

My room is 20 * 25 Sq. Feet.(500 sq. Feet)  I think it is big. maybe Model 40 Aktive would be better option. Please advise your opinion.

Yes, Aktiv 40

One more simple question.

Why CCI for Aktive Speaker is so expensive (500Euros) whereas amplifer v1700 is Euro 70.

On Aktiv speakers I execute a proprietary CCI modify because the standard Aktiv are not full CCI, on V1700 (or all others Grundig full CCI amplifiers) I execute only a check/set-up for back to the original conditions of them (these are standard full CCI)

Did Grundig made any good cassette Deck?

Do you have any interest in Grundigs Cassette Decks? Is CCI can be made applicable to Cassete Deck too? if yes,  How to get the Belts and Pinch Rollers to this cassette Decks?

I am using Tandberg 3014A Deck. I love Cassette Decks too.

Also many cassette deck have the fantastic full CCI sound but also have a big problem : alls grundig tape deck have problems with mechanism…frequently broken.

How about Tuner? T7500? I have Tandberg 3001A. It is one of the besti feel. What is your opinion about T7500?

Best Regards

Kiran xxxxx

Simply the best tuner that I know

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Sirs,

Any CD player you would recommend for CCI? Which is your favourite?

I have Sony CDP-R3. can i send it to you for CCI? Please offer your opinion.

Best Regards

Kiran xxxxx

Dear Kiran

You have two way possibile for approch to CCI cd player:

1)       buy on e-bay one of Grundig cd player full CCI ( cd7550,cd7500,cd35)

2)       to execute a full CCI mod. in other commercial cd player.

The first solution is less expensive and if you not use the remote control (Grundig cd players have not it) the only problem is the  affidability due to age of this cd players…purchase must be a bit fortunate.

The second solution I can execute with many cd player, but not on your cdp-r3, and have a cost of 500eur.

Best Regards

Massimo

Good evening,

I've sent you an email few days ago about cable on a grundig system. I've found a way to buy Vivanco hpfl 153, that you used to use for yourself, as I red on your website. But is it possible to use it both for speaker and interconnection? Is it also possible to use it for both aktiv and passive speaker? What could I use if not for interconnection, there are so many references...

From this link http://motxam.interfree.it/Atruths.html you can reed:

Speakers cable: HAMA transparent from 2.5 mm symbol "30728th", if you use connectors instead point line is the most appropriate HAMA 0.75mm.

Interconnect Cable: GBC mod.CA-201, cod.14.1505.00 version blisters (and not in the bag that comes from another supplier and other characteristics), it is also important not to replace the original plastic connectors.

Secondly, I already use an airport system for my music. I red that you did one with cci criteria, how much do you sell it?

Thank you for your response.

Sebastien xxxxxx

MA10 integrated 25W/ch without phono: 1200eur

MA10 integrated 50W/ch without phono: 1700eur

+500eur for phono version.

Dear Sirs

My friend also liked the sound of XV-7500.

He wish to buy V1700 or V7000 CCI fully implemented.

Please advice if you have any unit for my friend.

And what is the Price? Which one is Good? V1700 or 7000?

Best Regards

Kiran xxxxx

The only Grundig apparatus that I have all the time is PS1020 and XV7500 that complete the full CCI LT system. If your friend want a V7000 or V1700 (or others full CCI grundig) He can buy on ebay (search in Germany) , shipping to my address (from Germany) for checking/ adjustment CCI and after I send to you. My work have a cost of 70 eur + shipping.

Regards

Massimo

Dear Sirs

I have started using XV-7500 and my initial impression is that i like the sound. especially High frequancy is excellent. But it is very early to comment. I have listen only for 2 hours so far. I will tell my final opinion after listening for about 50 hours.

You have mentioned everywhere that Grundig should NOT be modified or Upgraded or refurbished. Can you explain the reason.

Replacing the old capacitors is also Modification? Should we replace the old capacitors or no? If we replace the old capacitors, CCI benefit will go? sound will be worse?

I do not want to replace the capacitors now. But i am worried that this preamplifier is very old, so someday these capacitors will start leaking. So what will i do? can i replace or no?

And if you think we can replace capacitors, then how can we buy the Old capacitors made by Grundig? Can we replace by any other Brand? Do you prefer any other Brand?

Thanks for your answer.

Best Regards

Kiran xxxxx

If you want mantain the full CCI sound do not go to the XV with a screwdriver in his hand !

If a capacitor has a problem there is a clear malfunction of xv7500. When you have a malfunction you can ship to me the xv and I repair in guaranteed (excluse shipping cost) with respect for CCI . Please don’t change original capacitor or other components!

Is very important not tamper it if do not know the CCI rules…

Dear Sir

Allowed me to send you a big thank you for your site.
When I was nostalgic looking for first device where I had learn to enjoy music: a Normend or Gruding radio with turntable on top, I have find your site.
At first I had bought a Grundig PS-1010 turntable and find that is a very good turntable. And I know what I’m talking about. I have several EMT turntables, Technics SP-10, Sony PS-X9, and others. So, I had bought Grundig V20 and XV 7500. When I hear it, my eyes and my mouth open to the limit. My Pioneer TAD horn speakers are now playing with V20, and result is best sound I got from this speakers. I had bough today V7500 and looking for Grundig speakers.
May I send V7500 to you to check it? If yes please inform address and price.
Could you please advice what Grundig speakers I should buy? My room is about 80 square meters.
Could you please inform too V7500, V1700, V20 and V30 characteristics. I have not find it anywhere.

A big Thank you

Dear Cesar

I can check your v7500 for a cost of 70euro+ shipping cost. For room very large of 80mq is indicated a box2500a near to rear wall.

PS. You know any possibility to buy original loudspeakers for Grundig Aktive-Boxes?

Dear Mirek

The upgrade (which I execute only at my laboratory) makes full CCI the amplification of active speakers. The difference between before and after you hear is about the same of comparing a V1000 (partially CCI) to a v7000 (full CCI): delicacy and air!

Dear Massimo!
Thank You very much for having me in your house.
This was very nice visit.
You have wonderful family! My children are very proud that they have Italian friends!
I enjoyed this meeting enormously .

Dear Pawel
Thank You!
I was also very happy to know You and your beautiful family, sorry for my very poor speak english...

Your main system is amazing, but grundig was more than impressive as well.
I connected every component in my system correctly with attention to cables and it is definitely better now. As I sad before I don’t have special room for listening so I’m afraid the level of CCI clarity is far from perfect (other equipment in the room) but better than it was before.
I was shocked by difference in clarity, space and beautiful imaging of both your systems when proper CCI is implemented!
In the future I want your main system J.
I will send you my amp and preamp and cables for checking the CCI before making the final decision of course.
We drove home for 18 hours but believe me it was worth it. It was the best musical experience I had and best part of my vacations!!
It helped me with my system very much.
I have the same tonal character now. The only problem is uneven scene. But I hope I can fix this. The cable I use to connect preamp and amp is not perfect. Grundig plug on the din side, but different cinch plugs. I will work on that.

Did you use grundig cable din to din with thick metal plugs? Is it good?

Once again many thanks!

I will post a letter of my feelings and thanks on the forum, once I have a time to write it. Ciao!!! Pawel.

Thank You Pawel for your nice words...

Best Regards
Massimo

All Grundig cables are the better cables (it's incredible but true...)

Hello Massimo,

I need help about turntable Grundig PS1020.
I purchase on ebay.de turntable PS1020, and I received it with original cartridge Shure M85G and with 2 broken styluses which are not original N91G.
Can you help me about this problem?

First, I looked for original stylus on the internet, and I find many replacements.
And I am confused. I don't know what is original stylus and how it looks like.
Also, I don't know is this cartridge M85G (on PS1020) OK, because I can not try it without stylus.

I read on your internet site that the best Shure cartridges and stylus are: M75B with N75Gt2 and M85G with N91G or N75Gt2.

One friend of mine, have Shure M75MGD cartridge, and it was with yellow stylus, and many years ago, he buy in Germany other stylus.
On that box of stylus was written that this stylus is for M85 cartridge, and after that he did not use that cartridge.
He offered me that cartridge Shure M75MGD with dark gray stylus. On that gray stylus is written only "SHURE".
Is it M75MGD a good Shure cartridge?
Do you know, what is the model of that stylus? Is it maybe N75Gt2?

I find many types of Shure M75 cartridges on internet (M75MGD, M75MBt2, M75MGt2, M75EDt2, M75Bt2, M75-6, M75E, M75Et2, ...).
What are the differences between them? Which are good and which are not?
If you know where can I read about Shure cartridges and styluses on internet, please tell me.
I try on Shure site, but I didn't find information.
Also, I check "letters" and "forum", and I don't find answers there.

And if You have some pictures of Shure cartridges and stylus, please send me on e-mail.

Best wishes!
Dragan xxxxxx

Dear Dragan

You must find only the stylus for M85G (the better cartridge for ps1020) and you can choose between N91G and N75Gt2...both very rare to find in internet...

I have a little stock of original Shure NOS (new old stock) N75Gt2 but I sell one N75Gt2 to 200eur...

Dear Grzegorz

They are both full CCI, cd35x = 16bit, cd35 = 14bit. However I prefer the cd35...the cd 35x is a little bit closed on high frequency (like you can see in frequency response:

Dear Massimo,

Good day,

How have you been?

I got a box300 and R45 recently, they sound wonderful with your DVD LT-mod.

Do you have speaker cables for box300? the speaker cables of box300 has been cutted, and the connector of R45 is as same as V7000.

By the way, I will have a business trip to UK on May 7th, please let me know if you can send the cable to me.

Take care,

Robert

 Hi Robert
I haven't original Grundig cables, but you can find on market one cable with similar copper diameter and with rigid  sheath (not siliconic sheath) for reach similar results.

Massimo

hello

i read about the cd960 LT mod on you website.... i have a cd960 too, and iam interessting in this mod
can you give me more informations? ... please
i think about a zero oversampling mod! ... is this the same?

greetings from austria
gugsi

Hello

the LT mod of the Philips CD960 (but I can modify several CD players in
the same way) is not related to zero oversampling or any other
electronic mods (like caps replacement, op-amps replacement, oscillator
replacement...). The LT mod is a very accurate tuning of the chassis in
order to reduce any audible HF interference during the sound
reproduction. The improvement is really big in a full CCI hifi system
(LT/Grundig). The cost of the LT mod is Eur 500 excluding shipping
expenses from/back to your address.

Massimo

hello massimo
thank you for your answer
its very expensive..... but interessting.....
i will test for the first... the non oversampling, its easy to do.....
nice evening

The zero oversampling is very different sound of CCI sound, I don't advice zero oversampling if you love the music feeling.

hello & good morning

i think about that converter

do you know the converter??

Hi Gugsi
The first italian DIY that have executed zero oversampling mod. is Marco Amboldi (some years ago)
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/hi_fi/com.htm , today he have a cd960 with normal four oversampling but mod. full CCI...

ciao massimo

thanks for the link, i have seen this site..... the full CCI is also interesting, but i dont want spend so much money in a cd player.... my speakers or amp not cost so much.... all vintage hifi .... speakers JBL 4311 ... AMP Sansui AU919
i only interesstet in simple and cheap modification on cd players,.... i want do find out whats possible whit less money :-) .... i have a second philips a CD304 ....
i will look for a SONY CDP101 ... the first player.... this player have no oversampling.... i want do hear this, i have read so many.... so iam curious :-))
do you have any player you want sell do me?? .... iam also interessted in a player whit tube´s in output.... like lampizator

I advice to you the only CCI models made in Grundig : cd7500, cd7550, cd35.
You can find on ebay.de.
Quality sound is very better to other normal cd players but these are without remote control

CCI .... can you tell me more about this??

Hi there,

I stumbbled across your website and was wondering if you could help me out with some information. I have found a couple of Grundig Super Hi Fi 850a Professional and before i buy them I wanted to know if I can use them as normal speakers with my Flat Screen TV? I am not an expert at all when

Kind Regards

John

Hello,

the Grundig Super Hi Fi 850a are really serious hifi reproducers and
they need the best LT/Grundig electronics and an accurate placement.
So, I do not suggest to use them as normal speakers with your Flat
Screen TV.
Regards
Massimo

Would DSL speakers play good with grundig amps?

Dear Pawel
Yes, this is possible if you haven't a large room.

My question is: would it be smart to buy speakers only at the beginning and then move to M50?

Yes.

Regards! I hope I can join one of the meetings next year! Pawel.

P.s. What would be the cost of DSL speakers?

DSL cost is 3800 eur (inclusive wood package for international shipping)
Best regards
Massimo

Hello Massimo,

I want to ask your advise.

If I'm using Box400 on stand (no other choice), a metal stand for Linn Kan, what distance from front wall should I place them?
Room length 4.8m, wide 2.85m. I have V7000, V20 and V1700. In your opinion, which one result the best?

Thanks,
JJ

Dear Jioe
Box400 are not for stand installation but only for bookshelf installation.
If you want test a two way Grundig to stand you can find box450 (or box550) first series (not professinal).
Differences between CCI Grundig amplifier are dependent more to condition of every one.
Regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,

Why do you say Box850a, Box1500a, Box800, Box1000 are stand-mounted speakers? I have Box850a, but I use them as floor-standing, for I don't have stands. Is there a big sound difference between stand-mounted and floor-standing Box850a? Should I make stands for them and how? Can you give me more details please... Amplifier I use is V7000. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Predrag

Hello Predrag,

any loudpeakers needs a right placement in order to linearize its
frequency response. The woofer reflection affects the frequency
response in the bass range and it is related to the distance from the
walls and from the floor. This is the reason why the Box850 really
needs 36cm height stands. In this case the speakers must be placed
80cm far from the front wall and the listening point (your head) must
be located 40cm far from the rear wall. The stands can be built using
tubular metal frame (square section); please check it is very plane
and stable on the floor.

Regards

Massimo

Ciao, Signor Massimo.

I am Ante (Antonio) from Croatia.

I have Grunding speakers "super Hi-Fi box 650" and i have found them very realistic even that 2 hi and 1 mid units are broken. I put some other units instead, just for a "first aid".

After i have "worm up" for grundig, i found your site. Can you please recommend me what to do with that units - if i can't find originals, is there somethig else that i can put instead?

I found hi-fi dome tweeters (60w, 8ohm) from monacor catalogue - are they good enough?

I have opportunity to buy receiver Grundig R35 - can you please tell me is it good / is it in high grundig class?

Thanks in advance.

Ante.

Hello Ante,

the receiver R35 is really high class but, before buy, please check
it is in good conditions. There is no replacement for original

Dear Sir,

I am very big fan of you and your site! I red all your tests and experiences about Grundig and I am speechless. I also have some of your favorite components like V7000 amplifier, CD7550 cd-player and T7500 tuner. And 2 weeks ago I also received Box 850a speakers, but unfortunately without DIN cables. I was looking on e-bay and several stores in Vienna but I couldn't find those cables. You already helped me a lot with your advices about Grundig products, but I must ask you one more time for help. Please can you tell me where should I look for DIN cables for Grundig Box 850a speakers or can you provide (sell) me those?

Best Regards,
Dusan Pajic

Dear Dusan

I don’t know where you could find DIN speakers cables in Vienna but I think possible buy DIN female connectors and make its in home with SCHWAIGER or equivalent speakers cable.

Hello Seweryn

The better solution of interconnect cables is the original Grundig cable, a little (very little) bit worse in Italy is available the GBC cable RCA-RCA 1,5mt : GBC mod.CA-201 cod.14.1505.00

Very worse types that you have linked.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Bora and I live in Serbia. I am very interested to buy Grundig amplifier V7000 and as I reading letter
from your site I have get impression that you can help me. I can't find that amplifier here in Serbia, so, I am asking
you for information how and where can I buy it.

Thank you in advance!

Dear Bora
You can find v7000 on ebay.de I can sell one of mine v7000 (checked for CCI implementation) but is over ebay price.

hi Dear

I have been through your site number of times, just to understand how deep you were involved in doing research with all these audio components. Actually I do similiar to something what you are doing, but difference could be the price of stuff you deal with (you amps and preamps looks much more expensive).....anyway. With your advice (in the website) I just brought V30 (ofcourse grundig) to try. I was amazed......the quality of sound it was producing was never heard before.I compared it with all my previous ones, luxman, yamaha, sony, marantz even Nad, nothing could stand against it. I am planning to buy SXV7500 and V1700. The only problem I face now is I REALLY NEED a remote control with volume, which these great devices do not have. do you have any suggestion to (somehow) get the same You never discussed V1 or V2 or R1 or R2 ......or FineArts by Grundig. Are they good as well?? Looking forward to hear from you!!! Regards Bandeep Singh Neuenhof Switzerland

Dear Sir For remote control on CCI system you can find one RPC600 or RPC650 .

Fine Arts is not good (not CCI)

Hello. I'm Kim. I Live in Nancy, France.

First of all, I'm appreciate to your site. It's very useful for me.

I'll buy grundig amp, cdp. speaker, but my room(residence of university) is so small. about 3.5 x 3m.

But so many grundig choice. I don't know what I exatly select suitable for my room

There are Grundig Amp V7000(100euro), V35(about 80euro), V20(100euro) and Speaker BOX 350(about 80euro - It's auction), 450(120euro).

And I'll buy cd7550 and T7200, so What do my best choice  if I buy only one amp + speaker?

Another question is There are huge different between T7200 and T7500? cuz, T7500 price is about 100-110euro but, T7200 is about 30euro. And in Ebay Germany, there is some broken cd7550. If I'll buy this one, could you fix it? I know it's very rude, impolite question. But CD7550 or 7500 is so rare item, and some higher price. Maybe It is some more cheaper than buy normal cd 7550.

Last question, Sir you mentioned about some fault about V7000, 35. If I'll buy one of these amp, If you could fix it some detailed falut? And How much including shippment.

Thanks for your attention.

Best regards.

Hello Kim
You can buy cd35+v35+box450 (or350) for your room. Cd35 is full CCI like cd7550 or cd7500 but less expensive.
For full check CCI of v35 or v7000 the cost is 70eur for each + shipping cost for Italy.
If you live in France can you join the foreign forum

Dear Dusan

if your local Grundig service is going to service your CD7550 please be sure that disassembling and re-assembling will be done exactly

and carefully at the same way. I usually check only the V7000 amplifier for full CCI implementation but I do not service any Grundig components.

A full CCI system can sound more natural and rich in harmonics comparing to the other hifi systems. If you need, I can supply cables to you.

Cd7500 is a circuit clone of cd73/cd303 but NOT is a clone for CCI implementation only present in Grundig models.

If you listen them there are not a little differences with Philips/Marantz clone...

Dear Sir,

I was reading your letters whole night and I read very useful information about Grundig products. I am not an audio profi or something like that; I just have friend who collects Grundig amplifiers, tuners, cd-players, speakers… and he told me about your site. I really share opinion with my friend that Grundig is on the top, because I heard few songs from his system and it was really amazing! Last night I purchased two tuners T7500, as you said that Grundig T7500 is best Grundig tuner. I started with tuner and I am going to buy amplifier V7000 (or should I go with V1700?), CD7550 (or CD7500?) and of course 850a profess passive speakers. I would also like to have turntable but I didn’t see much discussions about them. I would like you to recommend me few model which fits, or which would fit, components I am going to buy. And I would like to ask you one last question. Can you supply me with some missing components since it is very hard to find them, especially turntable (of course I would pay)?

Best regards,

Dusan xxxxx

Dear Dusan

I can supply:

-turntable PS1010/1020 complete with cover and original cartridge, checked for CCI conditions and with original NOS (new old stock) Shure stylus N75Gt2 (very very rare to find)

-V7000 checked for CCI condition

No cd player at the moment.

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Sir,

I am going to ask you one more question, for I am waiting on your answer. Is it really necessary to have preamplifier for Grundig PS 1020 turntable, and if yes what do you think about SXV6000? Or can you recommend me few other preamplifiers? I know what you said about XV7500 but it is very hard to find one… almost impossible, I would say… But I would rather connect PS1020 directly to V7000 or V1700 than using preamplifier which can “ruin” beautiful sound; do you agree with that option?

Best regards,

Dusan

Dear Dusan

SXV6000 have the same schematic circuit of XV7500 but not the same CCI evolution. I don’t advice sxv6000.

I can supply XV7500 checked CCI.

Only full CCI preamplifier alternative is the preceiver X55.

XV7500 it’s however not necessary and you can have a very beautiful sound with v1700 / v7000 / others CCI amps.

Dear Sir

Hi, I am a fan of Hi Fi systems from Iran. I got to know your home page because I was looking for informations about Grundig Box2500a. I have bought a pair of this speakers last week. They are second hands and I don´t know any thing about them. You say in your home page that this speakesr have a built in amplifiers. I just cheked out mine and unfortunatly there´s just two capacitors incorporated. Would you mind giving me more information about this built in amplifier. Im very upset, altought the speakers sounds grate as it is now.

thank´s a lot

Mohamad

Dear Mohamad,

thanks for your e-mail. As you can see in my website, the speakers that have built-in amplifiers they are called "Aktiv Box". The "Aktiv Box" series is composed by various models: 20, 30, 40 and 50.

Please, check my webpage:

http://motxam.interfree.it/Agrundig.html

The passive series looks very similar to the "Aktiv" series. But the passive series (models 850, 1500, 2500) does not have any built-in amplifier.

Anyway, the 2500a is a top-class speaker. You should drive the 2500a using a V7000 or V1700 amplifier. The best CD source to complete the system is the CD7500 – CD7550.

Massimo

Dear Massimo !

I'm very happy to find your website and your achievments! Especially Grundig story.

Lately I;ve bought some old Grundig products:

1. GRUNDIG HIFI BOX 306 COMPACT and

2. GRUNDIG HI-FI Box 503

3. amplituner - GRUNDIG SV 200

is it possible to get good audiophile sound using mentioned above?

What is your advice? Did you listen them? Will they play good together?

Which loudspeakres are better 503 or 306?

thank you for your advice !

greetings - Artur

Dear Artur,

thanks for your kind message. I think you will enjoy your Grundig components even if they are not the best. Box 306 are better than 503 but the best are the Box 300, 400, 500, 850a, 1500a,2500a. The best amplifier are V7000 V1700, V20, V30 and large Receiver series. You have to find a Grundig CD7500/CD7550 to complete your system.

Dear Dragan
Your speakers (of box300 and of box650) are in perfect standard condition, no defect.
On rubber of box 300 is a standard anti-humidity treatment and PLEASE DON'T TOUCH IT !!
Check only if your boxes have a good air sealed: push (very gently) on center of woofer, when you release, it must return very slowly to normal position if no air loss.
if it's ok , insert the grilles and install box 300 very near to wall and ON BOOKSHELF (no more height of 60cm) or supported on a pair of box2500 (used like stands).
Box 300 needs a very little room for a good performance in bass frequency. Also your listening point must be no more distanced to 40cm to rear wall.
Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo!

After completing two whole CCI systems my conquest for perfect sound stopped abruptlyJ . Seriously speaking I had the best time in my life in terms of musical experience (since the turntable came last year). I never had really chance to say THANK YOU!.

I was in Livigno this winter but had no time to travel any further. But one day I will visit you in person and will get some of your amps and speakers. I was moving around a lot with the speakers (the 850 upstairs sounded too different than 1500 in the other room) but finally I found the “SPOT”. They were just tilted forward too much, after changing that - no more differences (just the right ones!) perfect space and vocal and highs etc.....

One more business question – would it be possible to get modified DVD from you, we can agree which model, but this way I will spare the shipping cost from Poland to Italy/ let me know if this can be arranged.

To make the long story short thank you again. I may one day put some more thoughts about my experience on the forum but it seems to me the forum slowed down a little recently.

I hope I can be in touch with you guys. Regards! Ciao! Pawel.

Dear Pawel
How are you?

I hope here soon :-)

The CCI mod on DVD player have a cost of xxx eur and shipping cost for Poland with air mail is about of 50 eur.
I offer ever inclusive in this cost a singolar opportunity: in case of serious breakdown (laser) I move free of charge the modification CCI on other dvd player for one time.

Dear Sir,

Searching on the net I found your wonderful website and I really amazed.

My request is the following to you:

I bought a Philips CD 960 player few days ago ( looks like a new one) and I am very impressed by the nearly analogic sound. So I am using the same Philips CD 960 now as you do, but without modification. I think there are more possibility in this player, but I do not know how to start with the modification. I am a little affraid, If I modified it I am going to loose the nice sound.
I would like to ask you if possible to send me some inside photos and detailed description about your famous linear transfer modification. I would be really thankful if you could help me.
Thanks in advance again.
Yours sincerely,
Tamás

Dear Tamas
Sorry but the LT CCI mod. is a proprietary implementation and I execute only in my laboratory.
The cd960 standard is far to analogic sound, if you want listen a CCI cd player with small cost you can buy on ebay.de a cd 7550 or cd7500 Grundig....You can listen which is the mean of “analogic sound”.

Greeting from Romania,
sorry to disturb you,but i have a few question.
I own a pair of Grundig box M600,wich i have tryed to drive them with a Rotel 840 bx 4(doesn't sound so good, missing the low freqvencies),the best that drive them is an old Korting A100.I was studiing youre site and i have the folowing question:
1.The amplituner Grundig RV 5000(or R5000) will drive them better?(i'm asking this because i don't have the chance to listen, only to buy from the internet).
2. In this moment the pair of Grundig are mounted on stand and they are 1m away from the back wall and 30 cm from the side wall, and there is no chance to put them in to a bookshelf as you sugested. The option would be mounting them on the wall(they have some holes left for this purpose,i belive).Do you thing it is a good ideea?

Best regards
Adrian xxxxxxx

Hello Adrian,

1. The best Grundig amplituners are the R20, R30 or the old Receivers 20, 30, 25, 35. But you can also look for R1000 and R2000. The high powered models like the R5000 are a bit worse.

2. Do not mount the M600 on the wall. Try to lower them near the floor if needed.

Regards
Massimo

Thank you for you're response.

I've taken you're advice and i bought the closest thing that you sugested and that's Grundig R3000 (that's the best i could find in Romania) and you were 100% right, the sound is amazing. The recever is not in the best shape but it's ok,i need to change some capacitors and some of the light in the front panel but the rest is all original and untoched(a lot of dust in it).Now i thinking of taking you're advice a litlle more and buy a cd player from Grundig 7500 or 7550.

>Hello Massimo, could you tell me what are the differences between 1rst

Yes
There are exactly three version of B&W DM6 The first with woofer control level, wood front panel and all yellow midrange.
Second version
without control level on woofer , plastic front panel and all yellow midrange.
Third series without control level on woofer , plastic front panel and only cone yellow midrange.

The best is the second series,
the worse is the last series.

>You say that the Dahlquist DQ-10 are
equal to the B&W DM6(1st edition)

Not equal but similar quality with
many differences......

>and plenty people at "audioreview.com" said
that the DQ-10 are a little "light" on "base >department" but my
experience with the B&W DM6 was different, the "base" is fantastic
(they >were placed near the back wall)... i am confuse now...

If you
intend the "bass department" the DQ10 is not "light" if placed on their
standard 3 little foot (about 12-13cm height). DQ10 become light if is
placed on stand of 30cm (or more).....

Hello, i am french (near Paris) and i am sorry for my bad english... but i will tried to make my best...

I was looking information on internet about the B&W DM6 and i found your website with the list of recommended products where was the B&W DM6... I know this speakers because a friend of mine have them in London, and each time i am visiting himself i was amazed at how good this speakers sound... even compaire to my speakers that are JBL 4311, Acoustic Energy 109 and Klipch Cornwall I.

The DM6 seamed to sound just perfect to my ears!! Beatifull base, marvellus mids, airy, transparent and full!! (his amplifier is an HK PM635i / 2X40W)

I am writting to you because you experienced this speakers and the Dahlquist DQ-10, JBL 4311, Quad ESL 63, Magneplanar... Four speakers that i am very interested for having especialy the B&W DM6.

Do you have any recomendation? do you prefer the Dahlquist DQ-10? you said about them that they are one of the best multi-way floor standing speaker... are they beter than the B&W DM6? do you know  a better multi-way speaker that is not on this list (in a moderate price 500€ =>2000€)

Sorry for all this questions, but before buying the B&W DM6 i wanted to make sure not doing any mistake!

I thank you in advance, and hope yould help me...

Have a good day!

Fred,

Hello
The B&W DM6 first series (with midrange all yellow) is a great speaker at the same level of DQ10.
Better of this I know only the Grundig professional series loudpeakers (box2500a,box1500a,box850a), You can read my website...

Massimo

-----------

Hello Massimo and thank you very much for responding!...

I feal more confortable about the B&W DM6, also, i never though that this GRUNDING speakers were that good... i will take a look on them.

Ehm "Grundig" and not "Grunding"....

Two last questions:

1/ I was VERY impressed about DM6 "base", (quick, low and clean) is the Dahlquist DQ-10 as good?

Yes, very similar quality.

2/ I alwas wanted to have some JBL 4333 or JBL 4343... what kind of sound it is compare to B&W DM6 and GRUNDING box2500a,box1500a,box850?

Bass reflex supply a different kind of sound in middle-bass frequency : more empty

I can supply a little (good) Schweiger (0,75mmq) for

The solution MA50+xv7500 or integrated MA10 have the advantage of more linearity due to absence of tone control. You can see the "technical test" on my website:

No advantage in CCI implementation (same level).

Dear Pawel
The difference between CCI cd player and CCI turntable is very dependent to type of recording: a digital master is more probability better on cd player, an analog master is more probability better on turntable.
If your cd7550 is in good conditions there is only a little difference with cd960LT. However the cd960 has a remote control while the cd7550 not....

Hello James
1) T30 is a very good full CCI tuner.
2) T9000 is not a CCI tuner (sound is not so good). The Grundig best tuner is the T7500
3) The cover (grill) of box350 (first type) is maintained with stucco: you must make lever in an angle with a little screwdriver in order to detach the grill from the stucco.

Hi Massimo..

I'm so glad you respond my question..
My correct name is Jioe.
Yes, we both very please with the CCI sound result. I bet your LT amp doing better!

In this note, I attached some photos of my 2nd V35. The first one using siemen was borrowed, so I can't take the photo yet.
I hope the files are not too large. In the photo, you can see ROE 10000mfd is some kind of rusty.. Is it risky? One of 4 power transistor had different look. Is it no problem also?

I have Philips 303 also. Some information on internet says that it definitely the same like CD7500. Is it true? But unfortunately, it generate some noise, just like a cellphone interference. It happens just for few minuttes when device turn on.

Thanks for your concern..

Jioe J

Hi Jioe

Dont’ worry, your v35 is in good condition!

The cd7500 is a full CCI cd player, the Philips 303 not.

Hello Artur,
I am happy you appreciate my suggestions. I hope you'll complete your Grundig system soon and let me know your comments.

I had some mail exchange with Greagaudio but I do not know him and there isn't any direct relationship between his work and mine.
I advice to NOT MODIFY all Grundig CCI products.....

Modern hifi producers spend a lot of money for marketing and design; a lot less money for research. In fact, some "classic" products (BBC LS3/5a, ESL63, Dahlquist DQ10, Leak amplifiers) sound far better than modern products, as you can listen in direct comparisons.

Grundig of 70/80ies is another story due to some very advanced technical solutions.

Dear Massimo,

Yesterday I purchased Grundig CD7550. It is in very good condition. And it have a very very good sound.

Now, CD7550 is in sistem with Audio Innovations S500 amp and Grundig Box FL-10 speakers.

Also I have Denon DCD-2560 and I am starting to compare the sound of these two cd players.

First impresions are that CD7550 sounds more lifelike (vocals, percussions, guitars, piano etc )...

I can not find GBC CA-201 cable, what is your recomendation for interconect cable?

Here, I can purchase Hama, Oehlbach...

Also here, on the secondhand market, I can purchase receiver R7200 or amp V7150 (T7150, CF7150) now.

I am waiting for V1700, V7000, V20 or V30 amps, but until that time, I want to try complete Grundig sistem.

What is your recomendation R7200 or V7150?

Best regards,

Dragan.

Hi Dragan,

I am happy you have found a CD7550 in very good conditions.
It is
very rare. For interconnect cable you can look for SCHWAIGER TFS
2052
or old Grundig.

R7200 and V7150 are quite similar in sound quality. If you find in good conditions and low price, you can choose one of them waiting for one of the suggested.

Hello Slav

Which is the interconnecting cable that you use?

Box 650prof are installed on stand or on bookshelf?

Ciao,

I use about 50 cm high stands and any cheap OEHLBACH Interconect NF 1

My room is about 17 m2 and unfortunately there is only bed and armchair for the time being

Hello

For use with stand you must find a box850a prof (650 prof are indicated only for bookshelf installation)

Also the interconnecting cable is not CCI compliant and it can cause your problem.

Ciao

Box450 prof is very similar to box550 prof, if you have a bookshelf installation the better solution can be a box 400.

To never believe (forums, reviews, etc...) but always to listen with the own ear!
I advice to sell dq30 ( the worse Dahlquist that I have listened) and to render non-mirror one of your DQ10. Then you can find a Grundig CCI amplifier and a Grundig CCI cd player (see my website) and live happy!

If you buy a pair of box850a
or 1500a with 36cm (h) stand and drive them with a full CCI Grundig...
you don't reconnect the B&W... :-)

>I also want to ask if you are
still able to supply interconnects and one of the recommended turntables? If this is possible we can discus details later. Regards Pawel!!

Of Grundig productions I can supply only the turntables PS1010/1020 and the preamplifier XV7500 both checked for CCI implementation.
I can supply also interconnected cables enough equivalent to Grundig cables.
On turntables the cable is standard included .

Hi Massimo,

Can you tell me something about Grundig components V7150, T7150, CF7150, PS1700 and RB640 or where can I find something about them?

As I know from your experience, best are CCI components (V7000…  ), but how good are these models?

I think that models 7150 are from 1985 – 1986?

Sincerely yours,

Hello!

Great site!

I,ve started collecting grundig equipment!

Is the R 30 amplituner similliar to V 30 amp? Would it sound close to the amp. I have box 660 speakers? please let me know, I see big potential in those speakers with my "conventional " amplification. Best Regards. Pawel.

Hello Pawel

The R30 with the same aesthetic of V30 is with loudness not switchable. I don’t advice it.

Box660 is a good Grundig box of year 84 with a big potential but it’s not the better series of Grundig speakers (see my website)

Hi Massimo,

My friend have a Grundig High Fidelity Box FL-10. And he want to sell it. He borrow that speakers to me.

Now, I listen a Grundig FL-10 on Audio Innovations S500 tube integ. amp. and Denon DCD-2560 cd player.

Sound is very very good, only bass is not so strong!

Dear Dragan

The bass is dependent to room size and collocation....

In a small room and with listening point near to rear wall you have a good bass with FL10.

What do you think about that model, do you know something about Box FL-10, did you listen it?

I only know that Grundig FL-10 is 3-way 4 ohm speaker, with power rating 50W nominal, 75W music (that is writen on the back of the box).

What do you think what is fairly price for FL-10? How much did they cost when they were new?
They are in great condition, looks and sounds like new!

You can buy a pair of FL10 on ebay.de to 100-150 eur.

It’s not the better Grundig but it’s a very good Grundig box!

I think in these days factories do not make that kind of speakers. Now, everything is in design and marketing, but there is not music! And I did not hear that kind of sound in price range of 1000 euro and more (for pair of speakers).

Right!

Also more more over 1000 euro... :-)

If you want improve your system you can change also amplifier and cd player with Grundig CCI (see my website).

Massimo

Please replay!

Best wishes,
Dragan.

Hi-

I read your recommended list of components, and am kinda confused as to why you recommend two things-

-the DQ10 first edition. What do you mean? The non-mirror imaged ones, or the really early ones with the 7.5 woofers-which incidently almost nobody has heard of. I have 3 pairs of DQ10's-two sets came with non-mirror imaging, and I reworked them to make that happen. The 3rd pair was factory mirrored. I liked the sound of the non-mirrored ones, but liked it better(yeah, what does that mean in audio language-better separation?) mirrored.

-the small 3 peg legs. You know, I gotta agree with you there. I have home built (I think the nice word is "custom" built) cherry stands that raise them 14", and I like the sound better with the little legs. Maybe more punch; the correct angle; bass notes from the woof getting a head start over the higher notes, so that they hit the ear at the same time-whatever.

Hope to hear from you about the "early edition" question.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I mean the non-mirror imaged DQ10. The non-mirrored configuration is acoustically better than the mirrored.

Hello there,

This weekend I bought two grundig SL1000 Brown collored towers for 40 euro's. I'd like to know what i purchased caus e i absolutely have no clue. I just liked the looks of it very much. I read some comment you gave to Kwang about these boxes. I haven't heard the sound of it jet cause the connection points are not suitable for my stereo. There is only a powerpoint which looks like this _. but then above each other. While i normally use tullips?  As you understand now I 'm an absolute no no on this subject, what's the best way to connect them to my stereo?

Hi,

congratulations on your purchase. The SL1000 are very fine speakers

and they should be matched with others Grundig components.

To connect the speakers to your amplifier, you have to buy a couple

of 2 pin DIN plugs and terminate your cables.

Dear Robert
Aktiv20 LT mod. are very similar to box850a + MA50 (or MA10) but are very differents to SL1000
speakers! The SL1000 is a 2 way that needed a small room (not more of 15mq) for supplies a good result to low frequency and much care to installation. Moreover is needed a listen point near to rear wall
(wall-ear distance about 40cm). In this conditons the SL1000 supplies a sound more free of 3 way speakers and it maintains the middle frequency of 3 ways.

Dear Massimo,

with interest I read your website from time to time and I enjoy it each time.

I do not own any of your specially recommended equipment but are interested if you had the opportunity to listen to a Grundig device I do own personally and which does not appear on your site: It is the Grundig Preceiver X55a (in combination with 2 pairs of Aktiv Box 30 and 40), a device from 1979 and back then constructed for combination with Aktiv Box 20/30/40 or 50. Though not especially “neutral” I think the sound is very enjoyable and conveys a lot of musicality.

As the X55a is a class A device I think it was the basis for the construction of the later XV7500 (and SXV6000). Did you listen to X55a and Aktivbox 40 combination and have an opinion on it compared to later Grundig equipment recommended by you (XV7500)?

Kind regards, Michael

Dear Michael

Yes, I have listened to the x55a with great satisfaction and it’s a full CCI apparatus as xv7500.

The differences between x55a and xv7500 are due to presence of tuner on x55a and to tones control excludible on xv7500.

Tones control excludible is an advantage for xv7500, the tuner (on x55a) causes an impression of more harmonic sound but it’s only due to more insensibility to not correct installation CCI.

See link “installation” on my website.

With aktiv box standard (not CCI updated) the x55a supplies a great result but less deep and less delicate than the combination xv7500 + aktiv box LT mod.(CCI updated).

Dear Robert

The two solutions could get the same performance if you can place the MA10 between the boxes (for reduce the length of power cables) and place on rigid surface the xv7500.
The solution MA10 without phono has a disadvantage: does not allow you to use the turntable... :-)

Yes, but have you a turntable ? If yes I advice XV7500+MA50, if no I advice integrated MA10 ( without phono)

>By the way, what's different between MA10 with v7000/v1700/v35(I have one
>for Box350)

The CCI implementation is the same of Grundig V1700 (optimized for soft surface). The sound differences are due to tone controls not deactivable on Grundig integrated .
MA10 supplies a little more deep image and little more "thickness" of musical istruments.

Dear Massimo,

Last week I followed your instruction to place cd94mod LT+ v7000 + 850a, and I got fantastic result! I am thinking my xv7500. I don't think that I could have enough money to buy MA50 or DSL speakers. I am wondering whether the xv7500 + Aktiv 30 LT-mod is better than v7000+850a or not?

Best Regards,

Robert

Dear Robert,

if you want to compare active speakers to the passive, you should compare the Aktiv 20 to the 850a and Aktiv 30 to the 1500a as they have the same woofer size.

Listening to the Aktiv series with LT modification, the result is a bit more dynamic and the definition higher. But the sonic result is really similar. The Aktiv series must be used on stand (36cm height) and well placed on 4 points.

Grundig Super Hifi Box 450 is a very good choice, just a bit worse

Dear Massimo,

Sorry for the late reply as I just came back from a seminar conference
overseas.

I have found the DSL sounding smoother and more coherent with longer
break-in period. The cushion experiment really improves the solidity of
the whole sound landscape. Image staging becomes somehow more precise
with improved tunefulness (listening with feeling). Now I wonder how
you could come up with such an ingenious idea of the cushion treatment
:-)

When you are not too busy, please tell me some other nice recordings to
enjoy LT System even more. The obvious sensation of having a complete
Grundig/LT system around happens to be the irresistible factor that we
want to listen to music most of the time. It's becoming harder to
switch off the system, is this also happening to other LT members???
:-)

Best regards,

Handoko

Dear Handoko,

The idea of the cushion treatment is related to the reflexions of the
internal side of loudspeaker cabinet. These cause irregularities (peaks and dips are reinforced) in the frequency
response. The 1/3 distance of the cushion improves linearity. In fact, the distance of the reflection is now different for both sides and peak and dips are far less severe.
The cushion works well with symmetrical speakers (like DSL) but does not apply to asymmetrical speakers (like
3way grundig speakers: mid and tweeter are not specular) as they already have different
distances in emission centers.

Massimo

Dear
Massimo,
Recently I have found the Grundig Box 550 B speakers on the Internet
auction ( http://allegro.pl/show_item.php?item=84181564 ).
Do you know this model? Is it as good as older Grundig Box speakers?
I am looking for a pair of good bookshelf speakers to a small room (ca. 9-10 m^2, very similar to "Room A" on Your web page).Marantz CD-74 will be The source.Would this 550b be a good solution?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Grzegorz xxxxx

Dear Grzegorz,
I am sorry to tell you that Box550B speakers are not as
good as older Box400 or Box500. But, as you do not intend to use them
in a Grundig chain, you are free to choose them if the price is low.

In fact, the best combination for older Grundig speakers is the full
Grundig chain (V7000, V1700, CD7550, CD7500) or LT chain.

Best regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,

Thank you very much for your answer.

So I would better look for older models.

I have a few questions, because there are a lot of Box's models and I do

not know yet the hierarchy between them.

The best series is HiFi Box 300/400/500 & 350 (or it is called

Compact-Box 350?)?

Is the series Super HiFi x50 almost as good as the older ones? What

about speakers from this series, but called "Professional" - are they

better than the normal ones?

I also found Compact-Box series (e.g. 350a, 353) and HiFi-Box xx3

Compact (e.g. 403,313) - how are they?

For my room (9m^2, speakers will be on a bookshelf), what models should

I look for: from 3xx to 5xx? Or 5xx would not be appropriate (e.g. too

big)?

I understand and have respect to the fact that the Grundig chain gives

the best best results. However, nowadays I cannot change my audio

components (maybe in future when I get involved in the Grundig passion

:-) ).

Sorry for disturbing you with my boring questions.

Best regards,

Grzegorz  xxxxxxx

Dear Grzegorz,

You can choose the Grundig Box 550b or 350a or 353 or 313: this is
the best choice for your hifi chain (they are 2 ways and differs on
woofer size: 3xx = 11cm dia; 5xx = 16cm dia). The choice is related
to the acoustic of your room: if the bass reinforcement of your room
is excessive, you should choice smaller models.

Please, do not buy Box 300/350/400/500 or Professional series if you
do not own a full Grundig or LT chain. These loudspeakers are very
transparent and precise and they need an accurate interface. They
probably will sound unpleasant with your system.
Best Regards

Massimo

Enjoyed your website, very good.

I have just purchased a pair of vintage B&W DM6 speakers, they are in immaculate condition and are the best speakers I have ever owned, but could you tell me what the dial is for on the back please.
There seems to be a shortage of facts about the DM6 on the web.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Dear Brian
The dm6 was my first love and still remember it with affection. The dial on the back part was present only on the first series of dm6 (the better) and is the control of level of the woofer. Congratulations for your purchase!

Dear Sir,
I was very pleased to find your website and to join grundig_LT group. We share the same opinion about GRUNDIG products from 70s and 80s.
I would like to ask you if you could give me your opinion about following products: receivers R400 and R7500, and amplifier
SV1000 (of course made by GRUNDIG).I was so lucky to get in possession also speakers 650 and 850a professional and amplifier V7000.
Sincerely yours
RAdan xxxx

Dear Radan
The SV1000, R7500 and R400 are not totally CCI implemented (about 90-95%) only v20,v30,v35,v7000,v1700 are full (100%) CCI implementation.
However all the Grundig products of years 75-86 are development with CCI implementation and the results.....
you can listen it :-)
Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,
Thank you for your answer.Since I am almost a audio beginner (despite the
fact that I am an electrical engineer) would you please help me to find a
link with some technical details about CCI implementation.
Best regards
RAdan

Dear Radan
The acronym CCI (circuit chassis interface) has been from
me invented in order to identify the fruit of 20 years of search on a
particular phenomenon. I have seen such type of implementation applied
before only on the Grundig apparatuses of such period. Sorry but I am
not available to supply of explanations but only demonstrations of CCI.

Dear Massimo,

The DSL shipment along with Grundig CD7500, HiFi Box 300 and other bits arrived safely last Friday while I was on duty out of town. Thank God everything arrived in good shape!

I auditioned the DSL for the first time for almost 2 hours today when my sister came over to listen to some music thru my complete Grundig/LT system (Philips CD960LT, XV7500, MA50 & DSL). To put it shortly we praise the system’s ability to give us a pleasant access to musical listening journey. That may sound simple but certainly not an easy task to carry by any Hi-End systems. Most of them completely fail to achieve it.

However, I’m not sure if my audiophile fellows would agree with my assessment since the DSL surprisingly produces similar open window like the Quad ESL63 from a dynamic speaker design. But it does a better job than the ESL63 in portraying rich details and musical expression. The Quad may sound smoother, warmer and thicker which some may prefer to the DSL.

Even at this stage (not break-in yet) the DSL already sounds very impressive; music flows beautifully and very transparent (no congestion) with rich of musical expression. And I don’t hesitate to say even my favourite ESL63 cannot provide musical details & feelings like the DSL. Music sounds colder and a bit more dull/lifeless thru the Quad despite its unique charms! Does anyone remember Ella Fitzgerald singing a famous Duke Ellington’s composition ‘It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing’???

Sorry Quad ESL/ESL63 lovers but I must admit as a proud owner of both models that the DSL gives you more swing to Count Basie, more heart touching to Billie Holiday, more soul to Wilson Pickett and more boogie to Deep Purple than the the Quads. Got the message now?

As a music enthusiastist, I myself try to avoid to be called an audiophile since I have met so many

audiophiles who called themselves audio guru/experts promoting perfect sound but in reality they don’t know what aspects should be justified when listening to music.Oh what a pathetique!

A number of so-called audiophiles prefer to analyse the cosmetic aspects of sounds instead of the basic rendition of musical finesse and expression. Maybe as most of them are musically deaf or blind (illiterate) and not aware of what crucial aspects we should look for when listening to music (NOT sound!). In my humble opinion, harmonics and nuance in music should be one of the very underlying factors when appreciating Hi-End system performance instead of the mambo jumble audiophile terminologies which are irrelevant to the art of music itself. Therefore I don’t believe in hifi/audio magazine anymore but rather take them as bedtime stories to help one fall asleep quickly. Agree?

To me perfect sound means nothing if it does not convey the musical message positively. It’s as simply as that. My relatively short listening experience with a complete Grundig/LT system has reminded me how many Hi End systems I have heard missed to reproduce the true meaningful aspects of music which I now achieve with my LT system. Of course, it’s not perfect but music is becoming closer to the heart. Isn’t that what we are all after?

It’s a simple testimony as a token of my appreciation to the great works of Maestro Ambrosini.

Bravo Massimo!

Warmest Regards,

Handoko

Dear Handoko,

Thanks for your kind comment !

I am very happy to know you appreciate my effort to give you the best result today in musical reproduction.

I hope you have more time, in the next few days, to enjoy the system, and even to test the foam rubber cushion to use between the speakers (see DSL user manual)

Dear Massimo,

Thank you for your kind reply.

I have a friend who called me this morning after hearing the LT system yesterday; he wanted to buy my complete LT system including the Quad ESL63. He is so convinced that he really heard the best sound out of the ESL63 ever in his life. The big question for me is about a system replacement from you. Could you deliver the same equipments (XV7500, CD7500, MA-50) without having to wait too long?

Please advise. To give you more exciting news. I just came back from visiting a friend who has very expensive Venture speakers & pre (passive) / power (single ended tube-monoblocks 15W). His turntable is SME’s flagship model, 30 with SME V arm and Koetsu Jade MC cartridge. Total cost for the front-end alone is exceeding US$20,000 + a phono preamp by Ensemble (Swiss made). I brought a Grundig PS1010, VX7500 and MA-50. We keep using the same Venture speakers (using ceramic drivers) to make the comparison less complicated. The PS1010 is using a Shure V15 Type 3 to get a more refined sounding to compete against the Koetsu Jade MC ($5,000).

The audience consists of 12 experienced audiophiles who love listening to expensive Hi-End systems but the shocking news is they all prefer the sound of the humble, cheap looking Grundig PS1010 with Shure MM cartridge than the super luxury SME Model 30/ V arm/Koetsu which costs 40 times the Grundig with the V15 Type 3. We played a few different records with various musical genre and still the winner is the ordinary looking PS1010. The listening comparison was so jaw dropping to the audience!  I personally felt with great confidence that the Grundig would win the war and that’s why I initiated the idea to arrange the comparison test against the SME without any fear. Everyone was simply astounded with the superiority of the PS1010 to be able to reproduce musical performance, ambience, details, transparancy, correct note, rhythm & pace in the recording much much better than the sluggish & dull sounding of the SME. It’s a night and day difference and the whole game was almost like a joke. We should ignore SME for being so overpriced and a big failure in turntable design. What a shameful politic among the Hi-End manufacturer!

Bravo to you, Massimo, for your ingenious ideas to share some great information about Grundig’s best kept secrets and your valuable mission to save our financial status by preventing from buying hifi products who don’t deliver the music. A big gratitude to you!

Best wishes,

Handoko

Dear Handoko,
thanks for your kind comments.

Just an advise: please do not replace the original cartridge of the PS1010 with the Shure V15
Type 3 or others. If the PS1010 is correctly installed, it reaches the best performance only with the
original cartridge and original shell.

I am sorry but I am very busy and I can supply a new complete system
(XV7500, CD7500, MA-50) only after Christmas week.

Best regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,

For your information, I did not change the original cartridge on the PS1010 which you supplied. I leave

it as original to maintain a genuine performance by LT standard.

The PS1010 which was fitted with a Shure V15 Type III belongs to a friend so it is a different unit. And I am also curious if using a V15 Type IV would be even better than the Type III which already killed a $5,000 Koetsu Jade MC.

Dear Massimo,

Sorry I just got home from a long business trip hence the late reply to you.

Today I connected the MA-50 driving Quad ESL63 with superb results. I use a Grundig XV7500 preamp and CD7500.

Several friends came over my house to listen to the Grundigs + MA50 with the ESL63 and we all think they are the finest and most musical sounding system we have ever heard from Quad speakers!

Thank you very much for your kind help & assistance.

Dear Massimo,
Thanks for your kind reply.
At the moment, I have been so amused to hear how the Philips 960/LT could sound so amazing, more musical & analogue sounding than the standard CD960 or any other CD players I have heard (regardless of price) except of course the Grundig CD7500 which I am also very pleased with the sound. I have not received the CD7550 from you so I shall wait to give any comment.

With regard to my speaker choice, I prefer floor standing type. So my question is whether the best one from Grundig has to be the Box 1500A. Please confirm.

Handoko xxxxxxx

Dear Handoko,
thanks for your questions.

In case of stand mounted loudspeakers, the best Grundig are the Box 1500a Pro (suitable for big room) and the Box 850a Pro (suitable for medium room). So it depends on your room size. The height of stand should be 40 cm.

Dear Max,

I bought a LT MA10 50W without phono about 3 years ago. I have found the performance of this integrated amp really amazing. It has very good 3D soundstage, very natural and musical.  I have recently bought a used LINN LP12 Sondek Turntable with Shure V15 Type IV Cartridge (original stylus) and used an Audio Research SP6B preamp as phono stage only. The result is much better than listening to CD. I found the reproduction really real when listening to some good recording.  Nevertheless, I should be grateful if you would advise if a single LT MA10 with phono would have much better result than LT MA10 withou phono stage + AR SP6b as phono stage. Furthermore, whether it is worth looking for a Grundig PS1010 or PS1020 turntable to replace the LINN LP12. In fact, I have not seen any used Grundig turntable for sale in the local market. However, I have recently seen some used Grundig turntable for sale on eBay. There are PS2000, PS2500, PS3500, PS3600 & PS4500. Whether they are equivalent to PS1010 or PS1020?

Regards,

Michael (from Hong Kong)

Dear Michael,

thanks for your comments.

In order to the reach the best performances, the LT amplifier has to

be matched only with LT or some Grundig components. The reason is

that they are the only hifi equipments featuring CCI technology.

If you connect a standard CD player or phono stage to the LT

amplifier, the result is not optimal.

You should use only a CD player LT mod. or Grundig CD7500-7550 for

best performances. If you are interested, I can supply them.

In case you want to upgrade your LT MA10 50W and add the phono stage,

you can ship back the amplifier and (if not damage) I can change with a MA10 25w with phono stage of actual series with 200euro of difference. This price does not include the shipping cost from and back to Hong Kong.

Your MA10 (of old series) must be placed on a mechanically rigid surface: the best sonically result is reached placing the power amplifier on the floor, instead the actual series have a great difference : is optimized for no sensibility of surface (also soft surface)!

I can also supply the PS1010-PS1020 with original stylus Shure n75gt2 NOS(New Old Stock).

Dear Massimo,

Thank you so much! Today I received an old cd35 and look bad but play well.
The amazing thing is that cd35 is so matched with v7000 + 850a. I have been
played with Philips 850MKII and my father's Burmester 937, and sound a
little odd. Only one thing I am not comfortable is the cd35 could not select
track, I should play from first track to the last. By the way, please give
me a suggestion regarding 7500 and 7550. Are they far better than cd35,
cd7500 especially? Because cd7500 has Grundig cable. I would like to say
"Thank you" again, I got a good stereo was due to your instruction.

Take care!
Robert

Dear Robert,

thanks for your comments.

The CD35, if in good conditions and well installed in a Grundig/LT
chain, should sound far better than any Philips or Burmester. Please
note that the V7000 offers the best performance when placed directly
on the floor (and need of correct cables).

The CD35 can skip tracks, buttons are under the display.

CD7500 and CD7550 could be a bit better than a CD35 but, as they are
old machines, it depends on general conditions.

The CD7500 features the "bonus" of original Grundig cable. :-)

Dear Massimo,

Yesterday, I have received Grundig SL 1000.
The German seller informed me the following specification.
Music max: 70 Watts.
Load rating: 50 Watts.
Transmission range: 38...26 000 Hz
4 ohms. 2-Way, Trans over 1600 Hz
Loudspeaker: 3.

I was already known that it is 2-way but it sounds as if it is 3-way speaker . As you know,on the tower of SL 1000 there is a tweeter between two speakers those are the exactly same external apperances. But I could hear that the upper speaker was doing like middle-toner and the lower one was sounding like woofer. Is normal and right ? I just tested SL 1000 for few ten minutes to check the proper operation.

Any suggestions and comments for SL 1000 would be very appreciated.

Best regards,
Kwang

Dear Kwang,

congratulations on your purchase of SL1000. :-)

SL1000 is a very good loudspeaker in a full Grundig/LT system. It is
similar to my DSL but the SL1000 lacks the bass extension and power
of DSL. The SL1000 is suitable for small rooms or medium/big rooms
with excessive bass reinforcement.

SL1000 is a directive loudspeaker in the midrange so, it is very
important the height of listening point: the height of the ears must
be 80 - 90cm, lower than usual.

The SL1000 is a true 2 way: the lower woofer seems to sound different
but it is only the different position in the tower.

Best regards

Hello Massimo,

I alway appreciate your so much valuable Grundig informations.

I recently read some your new email messages corresponded with other peoples for some topics and found very interesting things that you have mentioned as follows;

" ...... V7000 is CCI fully implementation. All modification to this amp goes to a worse quality. R7150 is good but not so good.

On v7000 and v30 is present a little detail (CCI influent) assembled with an error (on more exemplair). I have available to correct this error (no cost for members of G/LT mailing list ) . For this you can see also the italian page : http://motxam.interfree.it/grundig.html ....."

But unfortunately I can not understand Italian at all as you know.

Could you give me the detailed information for the CCI corrections of V7000 and V30 ?

And you mentioned 10 Euros for something(???) in your Italian homepage. Is that fee for the information or what ?

Best regards,

Kwang

Hello Kwang,
thanks for your email.
I confirm there are some V7000 and V30 with a small detail wrongly assembled. Unfortunately it affects sonically the
amplifier as this small detail is related to CCI. I can check and fix the problem in my laboratory. But you have to ship to me your
V7000 or V30 (and pay also for return back). I fix this problem free of charge for members of our G/LT group in a single V7000 or
V30. If you have to check and fix more than one V7000 or V30 it costs 10 Euros each. I am sorry but, if you want to check your
V7000 (the check is free of charge) you have to pay the 2-way shipment costs from Korea. :-(

Best regards
Massimo Ambrosini

Hello Massimo,
Thank you for the details.
Do you think sonic differences after modification of v7000 CCI faults could remarkably be realized ? As you know it needs not only
quite a lot of shipping expenses between Italy and South Korea.but some possbility of damages during long transfer.
Anyway, about 70 Euros for one way to Italy by normal air parcel. for my packed V7000( little less than 10 kg weight including
proper packing materials)
Do you have any infomation of shipping cost for returning my
v7000 if I will send it to you ?
Best regards,
Kwang
Hello Kwang,

sonic differences after modification of > are remarkable: 20/30%
better.
Shipping cost to return the V7000 from Italy to Korea is about 150Euros.

Best regards
Massimo

Hello Massimo,
What is the exact meaning of " V7000 CCI fault (if present) " ? Are
there any V7000s without CCI fault ? All V7000s that I have were made in Portugal.
As you know a Grundig_LT member recently posted a message concerning
about the heat transfer material such as MICA disk used for power Tr
of V7000. All my V7000s use some kind of compound(white color) not
MICA disks for heat transfer. Do you think that V7000 from different
lots may be there are some minor changes giving some effects for CCI
implementations ? If the above assumption may be true then could you
check whether the CCI fault is present or not by checking some
detailed photos of my V7000 ?

Many thanks in advance.
Kwang

Dear Kwang,

the V7000 CCI fault is a small detail inside the chassis that
sometimes is assembled wrongly. There are same V7000 without this
problem (the detail is assembled correctly) and same V7000 affected
by this problem (the detail is not assembled correctly). I am sorry
but I have to check personally this problem as it is very difficult
to see in a photo.

I think there are no changes in sound caused by mica or other heat
transfer material. But I know some changes could happen if somebody
open, repair and close a V7000 (or other Grundig devices). Just tight
the screw of the cover strongly or slowly and the sound will be
affected...

Best regards
Massimo

Hello Massimo

My name is Konrad xxxxxx. I'm from Poland. I just have purchased V 7000 and I've found it amazing. Previously ! was tuned for telefunken and braun gear and in general german equipment. in my opinon it sounds better than japanese (or more precisely non DIN) HiFi. I'm not electronics specialist but I think there had to be some kind of unification of parameters in "DIN zone" so the the whole system sounds more cultural and less fatiguing. But I was not interested in Grundig at all. First of all grundig has bad opinion in Poland because during communistic times it was (together with thomson) the only international audio brand functioning in socialistic "market" and because there was only very few cheap models of radiorecorders produced (on license), today's Poles see grundig as not serious company. The recent Grundig's and Thomson's production does not make any change in this area : )

Some months ago my friend bought a set of box 40 and we connected it directly to my CD Telefunken HS 950 (it has a regulated output) and... you can imagine what happened... it seemed like evangelical miracle: a deaf one was healed. I did not realized that I have so perfect CD! Then I started to seek some knowledge and I have found your (and my fellow Pole Greg's) website. You both dicovered grundig's miracle, moreover Greg praises some part of Sanyo production for its transparence and fidelity. Greg told me that you have contacted but linguical bareers are to high. Pity. Greg says that he's able to improove selected grundig gear to play even better, you say oppsite: the bricks are perfect, do not touch it. greg seems to be serious specialist and judging on what he writes on his website he knows what he is talking about. Aren't you curious of this? My idea is to say "check the issue".

Therefore i propose a little deal: I will order full GAT (Greg Audio Tunning) of V 7000 and will send this unit to you on my expense. Your role is to tell your opinion and send the amplifier back to me on your cost. I hope something good to come out of this.

What do you say?

greetings

kalbar

Dear Konrad,

I'm glad also you enjoy the Grundig sound. Thank you to share with me your experience. A lot of people are discovering qualities of old Grundig equipments in Italy too. As you can read in my website, in order to reach the best performance, I suggest to use a full Grundig chain without mixing them with other equipments (even if they are "DIN HiFi").
I started to study Grundig equipments 20 years ago and my knowledge in their technology has helped me in development of my handmade Linear Transfer products. This is the reason I suggest to not modify Grundig equipments. In fact, I have mailed Greg this mail:

“Dear Sir,
as I can see in your website, you cite my name without any
permission. Please, you are requested to remove any reference from
your page. Thank you for cooperation.

I would like to remember also that CCI mark is an intellectual property of LT !

Regards
Massimo Ambrosini”

And Greg has removed all reference to CCI and my person.

However it is difficult to speak about these topics in a non native language.
If you come to Italy, you are welcome to my home and you can bring with you the V7000 GAT and compare it to a standard V7000 in my fully optimized Grundig chain. Or, if you prefer, you can send to me the unit and I will test it.
I have see toroidal transformer changed into a clone Sanyo of V1700 Grundig: this is totally NOT CCI !
I could invite other friends and share with you their impressions as I would not appear biased.

Best regards
Massimo

Dear mr. Ambrosini,

A year ago I did purchase a B&W DM6 loudspeaker. I am very satisfied with the speakers; they sound wonderful. When searching on the internet I came by your website and find you do appreciate them just as much as I do. However, I am not satisfied with the Luxman LV 103 amplifier and Quad 405 I do use (in fact they are both broken now), so I am looking for some good advice for an amplifier who really fits well with these speakers. I wonder if you do have some advice for me.

If you do have some time for an answer I will appreciate this very much.

With regards,

Hendrik xxxxxx (Amsterdam)

I advice a standard Grundig v1700 for your DM6, but the better solution is with a cd CCI (cd7550-cd7500-cd35 Grundig) .

Your Dm6 is the first series (with level control also on woofer) or the second series ?

Best Regards

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

My DM6 is the second series. Does it make a difference?

 Regards,

 Hendrik

The midrange is different on first series (totally in
kevlar included the dome) and this range of frequency is better.
I advice to listening with the upper grilles but without the lower
grilles for the better results.
Best Regards
Massimo

 Dear sir Ambrosini,

On looking for a new equipment this summer I saw your website. Because I am not very technical I was surprised by your attractive simple recommendation of Grundig.

On my holidays I foundt a V 7000 so I bought it, together with a cassettedeck 7200, so my holydays were wonderful, but I do not yet.have the amp in my home. I have a few questions:

* Looking father for Grundig on Google  I found a Polish website (www.gregaudio. republica.pl), also with information about Grundig and ICC. I mailed this Grzegorz, but because the website is only Polish and his English is very bad, I cannot get exact information if he has the same ICC principles has as you have. Do you know this website and his activities?

* He recommendates the V7000 but he also does modifications (!) at the amplifier. He mailed me and advised also the Reciever R 7150, and mentioned it as "far better than 7000". What is your opinion?

* It is difficult for me to get a Grundig 850, 1000, 1500 in Holland, and also on e-bay.  For I have a not a small room, I would try to get a B&W dm 6 now. Could you tell me if this is a good combination with the V 7000? I listen mostly to old mono and stereo records, which needs a clear reproduction (otherwise they sound to warm or veiled). If this is not a good combination for my records, can you recommend another clear-sounded speaker?

* My pickup now is a MC. So I have to use a step-up ( I have now a simple Lentek) for the phono-input of the V 7000. Would this have a negative influence on the sound- image of the V 7000? If so, can you advise me another step-up? (and if I do not succeed in getting a Shure MM!).

* Can you give me the address of people in Holland who have LT-products so that I can listen?

* If I want to buy LT-products, can you give me a price-list?

That is enough for now, and I hope you will answer me soon. Perhaps I have later some more questions.

I have seen a Sanyo clone of v1700 with transformer changed with a toroidal : absolutely not correct for CCI implementation !

The CCI (Circuit Chassis Interface) implementation is an acronym that I have given to my personal search on the causes of the sound..

Only old Grundig has used such implementation before me.

>* He recommendates the V7000 but he also does modifications (!) at the amplifier. He mailed me and advised also the Reciever R 7150, and mentioned it as "far >better than 7000". What is your opinion?

V7000 is CCI fully implementation. All modification to this amp goes to a worse quality. R7150 is good but not so good.

On v7000 and v30 is present a little detail (CCI influent) assembled with an error (on more exemplair). I have available to correct this error (no cost for members of G/LT mailing list ) . For this you can see also the italian page : http://motxam.interfree.it/grundig.html

A great step ahead you can have with a full CCI system (with turntable ps1010/1020 and a CCI cd player....and cable correct...more important)

>* Can you give me the address of people in Holland who have LT-products so that I can listen?

Sorry but LT is a little Italian production and only fews amp was going out to Italy.

>* If I want to buy LT-products, can you give me a price-list?

Of corse but I advice before to testing a full Grundig CCI system......

Dear sir Ambrosini

Thank you for your answer.

* I am looking for a translation of the polish website. I soon as I have it, I will mail it to you.

                                                                +  3.5 m x 5.5  m

* I saw on internet the box 2500a prof (being the top model of the 850a, 1500a series). Is this also an interesting speaker or are the other better?

* I will try to get a XV 7500. I can buy in Holland a 50 aktiv box now. Because I am not technical, I have a friend who can do something for me (he built his own speakers). Are your modifications at the aktiv 50 simple or difficult to do?  Is the aktiv 50 more interesting than a dm 6 or is it better to look after a 1500a prof or SL 1000? What is the difference between 650a, 850a and 1500a (does it have tot do with the room size?). What is the doifference between 650 and 650a;  850 and 850a and so on.

* Were can I get information of all types of Grundig equipment 1977-1986? (type numbers, spcifications)

>* I saw on internet the box 2500a prof (being the top model of the 850a, 1500a series). Is this also an interesting speaker or are >the other better?

2500a is a very good speaker but 850a and 1500a are better.

I will try to get a XV 7500. I can buy in Holland a 50 aktiv box now. Because I am not technical, I have a friend who can do >something for me (he built his own speakers). Are your modifications at the aktiv 50 simple or difficult to do?

I execute modification CCI only personally (cost of 300euro) but the shipment in Italy of the aktiv would be much expensive . If you want not modify the aktiv box I advice more the solution passive speaker + Grundig standard amplifier (v1700-v7000-v30-v20) that are full CCI implementation (and minus expensive….).

           > Is the aktiv 50 more interesting than a dm 6 or is it better to look after a 1500a prof or SL 1000?

You must testing in your room the bass frequency comportment of same : this is the critical point to choose the final speaker.

            >What is the difference between 650a, 850a and 1500a (does it have tot do with the room size?).

Woofer and bass frequency extension are different (choose in function of your room)

            >What is the doifference between 650 and 650a;  850 and 850a and so on.

The “a” series is made with the better speakers (different from previous series) . The only 650a not exist but there are two models different both named “box650”

Dear Mr. Massimo Ambrosini,

because of your knowledge of Grundig I would like to ask your advice for the best Grundig FM tuner.

I have already the ST 6000 unit, and it sounds much better than any digital tuner I have heard. The ST 6000 is analog (IF: LC filters), but with digital frequency reading.

Is there any other Grundig that would be even better ? For example the old units from around 1970. Or the mini tuner MT 100 (ca. 1980 ?) ?

Regards

Kjell xxxxx,
NORWAY

Hello Kjell
The better Grundig tuner is the T7500.
All the series "7000" are CCI implemented and then very good sound (much better of 1980 series). T7200 and T7500 are also tuner PLL (very good frequency stability).

Hello Massimo
I find your website very interesting.
I wonder if the Grundig Hifi series of 1979/80 solve the CCI problem. I
normally listen to the combitation of SXV 6000/ mxv 100 + aktiv boxen XSM
3000 or XM 400 and the sound is georgeous! Very natural and
neutral.I find output stage MA100 / A5000 highly advisable. Is it worth changing the
preamps for the most modern XV 7500 or there is small difference between them?
Box M300 + receiver MR200-2 is also astounding. What´s your opinion?
Best regards from Spain
Lorenzo xxxxx

Hello Lorenzo

thank you for your positive comment on my website.

The Grundig HiFi series of 1979/80 is very good but it solves only
partially the problem related to CCI. It was a transition series but
better than most of actual audiphile products.

The XV 7500 is similar to SXV 6000 but the CCI technology reaches a
higher level. Probably, in your combination (CCI medium level), there
is a small difference between them but, if you find a XV 7500 in good
condition, you should try it (in combination with Aktiv Box).

MA100 / A5000 are good amplifiers but the best Grundig amplifiers
(relating to CCI) are the V7000, V20, V30 ,V1700. But I agree with
you: also if the CCI is only medium level, Grundig combinations are
outstanding.

Hello,

Can you send me more information about the upgrade ?

Thanks Johan xxxxxx

Dear Johan

as you can see in my website, my ESL63 upgrade is the solution
to a problem that spreads itself in the whole hifi link. This the
reason I suggest to assemble a complete hifi system optimized for CCI
instead of trying just one component.

You can start from suggested amplifiers and sources: Grundig V7000,
V20, V30, V1700, Grundig CD7500, CD7550 or LT products.

The cost of upgrade for ESL63 is 300 euro but if you have the chance to come to Italy I can show you the improvement comparing to the standard ESL63 and the improvement using them in a hifi system optimized for CCI.

You can start from suggested amplifiers and sources: Grundig V7000, V20, V30, V1700, Grundig CD7500, CD7550. You should also try a pair of Grundig Boxes following the indications at my website:

http://motxam.interfree.it/Ainstallation.html

The cost of modification for CD960 is 500euro but I can't suggest you this way if the rest of your hifi system affects the performance of the CD960 modified.

Best regards

Hi. First - I really love your site.It is not only fun but also very educative. Funny thing is I had quiet a few or your favorites components (quad 63, DQ10 Rodger LS3/5A),and it seem we had some similar experience (and test). Since you are the first and only person that my two componenets (Krell & DQ10) are some of his most favorates,I don't know about anybody better than you to hear from.

My dilemma is - I'm going on budget right now,and using the Dahlquist DQ10, and I have an Opportunity to purchase the Krell KSA 50, and I'm wandering what do you think about this combination? The seller said it is a peach match with the DQ10,but as you know,he is the seller?! (he might be righr, but he is also a little biased). Do you think it is the best match I can do for no more that $1000 on the Amp? (My preamp is the precision Fidelity C-7A ,phono only). I would love to hear from you, and really looking forward for your thoughts and advice. I think my wife is going to kill me - as i'm spending too much time on your site. But hey - it is fun!!!! Best regards.Elli

Hi

thanks for your positive comments on my site. As you can see in my pages, the old Grundig amplifiers (v7000, v1700, v20, v30) are my favourites and, in my opinion (and after some test comparisons) they are even better than Krell. Unfortunately they have never been distributed in the U.S.A. and they were produced only for european voltages (220VAC or 240 VAC). In this case you can go for Krell KSA50.

You will be not disappointed.

Best regards

Massimo Ambrosini

Thanks much Massimo for your time and input. I'm going to look for either Grundig Amp or turntable - who know - maybe i'll fing a good deal in the U.S.A voltage.I'll let you know in this case. Thanks again Massimo!!!!

Dear Massimo,

Little bit  a long time has passed since I have corresponded wiith you.

I now have some more Grundigs. I will soon upgrade my photos in the yahoo Grundig/LT forum.

I introduced Grundig CCI and LT system to a online internet audio forum in South KOREA.

Some peoples are interested in the Grundig and LT stories anyway.

Fortunately I recentely could have a chance to buy a set of box 300 .

It has not only very clear and transparent sound along with mid -high range but also quite quite cute in bass-extension.

Attached the photos of my box 300. Could you please check whether it is good and normal compare with original one especially for the edges ?

Best regards

Kwang

Dear Kwang,

looking at photos of your Box 300, it seems they have not any external problem. Please consider that Box 300 are very critical in placement and set-up.

- Box 300 must be placed on a shelf (max. height 50 - 55cm), look at picture at my website: http://motxam.interfree.it/Atop.html
- Box 300 do not fit well large rooms: they are perfect for small rooms
- The listening point must be placed near the rear wall (40cm far from the wall).
- Do not remove frontal grilles
- Remove completely the felt foot that I can see in the photo and cean well any residual of ahesive.

Please, let me know your impressions.

Best regards
Massimo Ambrosini

Dear massimo,

Thank you for your very valuable comments.

Is felt foot not original one ?

Best Regards,

Kwang

>Is felt foot not original one ?

I don’t know, but no felt foot is the better solution. :-)

Best Regards

Dear Massimo,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Could I ask you one more question ?

Is sound quality(?) of box 600 equivalent to that of box 500 and 650 pro when it is matched with v20 or v7000 ?

Best Regards,

Kwang

Dear  Kwang

The box 600 is very good speaker but a little bit worse of box 650prof. and (if placed on a shelf of 50-55cm) box 500.

Hello!

I´m a Grundig Fan too !

Do you need some pix of a Monolith Soundwall 190.

I´m the proud Owner !

Hello Mike,

nice to hear you are a Grundig fan too.
Can you list the components of your complete hifi system?
Have you ever tried the Grundig Aktiv Box 20 or 30 in your room?
They could surprise you. :-)

Hello!

Really i tried the prof 30 monolith80 and monolith50 too .But in my opinion the 190are simpy the best.
AVM V3S preamp with Accupowersupply CD1P and DAC3.

Thanx Mike

Hello Mike,

have you ever tried the Grundig preamplifier XV7500 and CD7500 in your chain?
I have tested several Grundig components (including monolith series) in years and, in my opinion, the best are:

Preamplifier XV7500
Integrated Amplifier V7000, V1700, V20, V30 CD Player CD7500, CD7550
Speakers: 650Pro, 850a Pro, 1500a Pro
Bookshelf speakers: 300, 350, 400, 500
Turntable: PS1010, PS1020

The aktiv box 20, 30, 40 and 50 need a modification to reach the best.

Best Regards
Massimo

Hello!
Yes I like the 7500 preamp and the cd7550 too.
The sound of the 7550 cd is very warm it has the cdm1Pro drive (The best of all Drives with glass lenses!) and sounds a little bit like Marantz.
Do you know some necessary modifications for the Grundig active loudspeakers. I´m very interested in.
By the way -if you need some manuals or schematics may be i can help you !

Ciao
Mike

Hello Mike,

if you come to Italy I am pleased to invite you and have a listening session to my Aktiv box modified compared to standard Aktiv Box.

Next 21st May, me and my friends of Italian forum, we will meet at 2nd Grundig Day in Ravenna: we will compare several Grundig equipments and my own modifications and products (Linear Transfer range). Where are you from?

Hi,
I found your web site while I was looking for some information on Grundig tuner T7500. During searching your web site I realized that you are quite focused on cd-players and amplifiers. How about Grundig's tuners? Is there any sense to buy it?
Presently I'm looking for some tuner for me and I found that one in a very good condition. The question is: should I buy it or leave it? Price is about 50 euro.

Mike

>Price is about 50 euro.

A great tuner for a little price…..:-)

Hello,

I bought the Grundig Super HiFi Professional Aktiv Box 40 for myself recently at eBay for 400.- EUR.
You can tell to me what those ones cost once again.
Those ones have a very good sound, only the middletones could be a little better.
A lot of thanks for your answer.

Hello Horst,

the Aktiv Box 40 are very good loudspeakers. Also the midrange is good but the result can be affected by
other components. How is your hifi system composed?
Please, remember to use the Aktiv Box using their grilles because this too could change the middletones

Hello Massimo,
I practise the boxes at the computer and hear my MP3´s. I employ as Player the Windows Media Player 10 at
which one achieves very good sound results about equalizer and SRS. Of course it would ring differently
if I used a good booster, however, I lack the place for this purpose. You can say me what these boxes
cost before 30 years on the market?
To Thanks for your answer and relief.
With friendly greetings

Hello Horst,
I strongly suggest to use your Aktiv Box with Grundig XV7500 preamplifier and Grundig CD7500
(or CD7550) cdplayer.
The actual quotation for Aktiv Box 40 is 600 Eur. The old price (1979) was 800.000 italian Ł = 400 Eur !

Regards

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

I will make an effort to bring the devices recommended by you and to practise the boxes with that.
Me would interest still, from where your interest and competence for Grundig devices comes and which
boxes you use. What surprises me however too, is, that the boxes 1979 only 400.- EUR ( the pair? )
to have cost and to be acted today for 600.-.
From where does this increase come?

Best regards
Horst

> Me would interest still, from where your interest and competence for
> Grundig devices comes and which boxes you use.

Dear Horst,

I studied so long Grundig devices as they are very good, even better than the "so called" high-end hifi.
I use several kind of boxes in different rooms and my favourites are: LT DSL, Grundig SL1000,
Grundig Box 300, Grundig Box 850a Professional.

> What surprises me however too, is, that the boxes 1979 only 400.-EUR
> ( the pair? ) to have cost and to be acted today for 600.-.

Also the famous Rogers LS3/5a 15ohm were priced 175 EUR in 78-79 and nowadays their quotation
is 800-900 EUR!

Dear Sir,

I red carefully your opinion on recommended components.I would like your opinion on my system regarding possible

upgrading if it's not too much trouble for you.
My system consists of a PLUTO 12a turntable a Pluto 5a special tonearm along with and a Koetchu Urushi.

The pre amp is ML 26 and the phono stage is ML 25. Cd player is the Audio Research cd 3 and a Nacamishi Dragon

completes the music sources. The amp is a stereo ML23.5. All the wires are NBS Signature and

Master( Interterconnects, speaker, power) Finally the speakers are the KEF 107/2.

The later I own them since 1987 and I'd bought them upon a trip to London.
The ML's from NY back in early 90's and the rest date back a couple of years I would very much appreciate

your expert opinion of these items.
Thank you very much in advance for your kind reply,

Dear George,

I am sorry but I am not used to give opinions about other products than my recommendeds. You can find in my website

and especially, if you ask for the best:

http://motxam.interfree.it/Atop.html

A simple Grundig V1700 or V7000 with a CD7500/7550 and PS1010/1020 is better than ML/AR. You should try it.

Dear Andy,

the Linear Transfer mod. for CD960 CDP does concern the solution of
C.C.I. (Circuit Chassis Interface). I am sorry, but I do not intend
to unveil this technology as I spent so many years studying this kind
of phenomenon. The only thing I can say is that the LT mod. does not
concern zero-oversampling neither modification in output stage
neither anti-jitter circuits...

Hello, my name is Josh. I have a CD960 from 1987 that works well, except for a tracking problem. Would you know of anywhere that sells replacement parts for old CD players-and that will work on US 120 volt current? I'm also curious about what Linear Transfer modification is-I've heard many things about how to modify this CD player, (for example, switching the TDA1541 for a PCM chip) but no one over here seems to know anything about it.

Grazi, Josh

Hello Josh,

it's no easy to find replacement parts for old CD-players. You can
find in Ebay old CD-players and using them as spare parts.
The LT-mod for CD960 involves the solution of the C.C.I. problem
(Circuit Chassis Interface).
As I worked very hard and so long to understand what the C.C.I. is, I
do not intend to offer any technical explanation except of what you
can read in my website, sorry.
I can apply the LT-mod to your CD-player but you can appreciate the
improvement only in a full hifi chain solving the C.C.I. (Grundig/LT)

Dear Michael,
if you can not find Grundig interconnect cables, you could build them
using DIN plugs and the standard grey/black cable (as you can see in my

In case you are not able to build cables, I can supply them (with DIN plugs) and the

Dear Massimo,

Thank you so much again for your interests and suggestions. I recently got a V20, V1700, CD7500, Box 650a Pro and failed to get
Box 850a Pro in Ebay auction, Germany. During the bidding for the above items in ebay auction, Germany I met many Italian competitors. I could easily imagine that your strong suggestions for certain Grundig vintage audios to encourage them quite a lot. I regret that I may give them(Italians) some stresses during the biddings...^_^
The condition of V20 amplifier that I received from Germany was not so good but fortunately it has almost been recovered perfectly since I met really great electronic master engineer and technician having 35 years experiences. He is a marvelous electronic engineer and technician. As you know I bought the
modified Aktiv Box 30 since I didn't understand Aktiv speakers exactly. The former owner of the Aktiv Box 30 also didn't aware of the modifications. As your suggestion I am going to keep it as spare parts but in the mean time I' like to try to exchange the DIY crossover to another commercial ones available for experimental purpose. Yesterday, fortunately I found a very nice and well maintained Grundig Box Pro 1500a in Korea. I'll bring it tomorrow. I am going to match V20 + Box Pro 650a and V1700 + Box Pro 1500a. Upon your suggestion, Box Pro 1500a shoud be declined backward. Could you give me some more details for how much to  decline it.
Anyway, the next step that I would like to do is enjoying the sound of old Grundigs lot lot lot... I am apperciated very much for your valuable suggestions that induced me not to spend a lot of time to try to find nice audio devices.

Best regards,
Kwang

Dear Kwang,
I know there are a lot of Italian competitors during bidding for
Grundig items in Ebay auctions. I expect their number will grow up in
a few years.

Grundig Box Pro 1500a should be declined a few cm. They are highly
directive speakers so you will find easily the right declination.

Thank you for your comments. Please, consider that these Grundig
components are not only "nice audio devices" but the best ever
produced. In fact they are the only devices solving the C.C.I.
problem (excluding Linear Transfer, but LT is produced only in small
quantity).

Hello Mr. .......

First excuse my English, which is not the best. I live in Germany and I am electronic engineer.

I douldn't find your name on your website, sorry!

You tell a coupling between electronic and chassis and I suppose, you mean an amplifier. What kind of mystery are you carrying with you?  *smile*

Your website is more than interesting!!!

Best regards

Stefan

Dear Stefan,

my name is Massimo Ambrosini.

The C.C.I. problem can affect active components (amplifier, preamplifier, source) and also passive components (speaker, cable). I am sorry but I do not intend to explain what it does concern.

Please, refer to my website and other letters

Best regards

Massimo

Hello Massimo,

Eventually I have a Grundig V20 amplifier, Aktiv Box 30, Box Pro 650a and Box Pro 550a.

As a novice I' like to express that V20 + Box pro 650a combination gives me the best feelings among them for about a week listening of various genre of musics.

And it is little bit curious for me that I feel a lot differences in sound propensity between Box Pro 650a(3-way) and Box Pro 550a(2-way) even they are almost same sizes and external shapes.

I wonder whether the both of them are retaining the original sound quality or may be some degraded in.

Also I do not understand the function differences between active amplifiers like in Aktiv Box and the passive networks in Box exactly.

Which type is more adaptable or effective for my V20 amplifier ?

Could my Aktiv Box 30 built-in amplifier be easily modified to the Linear Transfer modification as you mentioned ?

Best regards,

Kwang

Hello Kwang,

congratulations on your purchase of Grundig products.

Grundig Box Pro 650a are optimized for placemement on stand. The Pro 550a are optimized for bookshelf. This can explain the

different acoustic frequency response. But it is also possible that speaker components are damaged or degraded due to the age.

To really evaluate these components I hope you will find a Grundig source (CD7500 or CD7550).

Passive speakers (650a, 550a) must be connected to an amplifier (like your V20). Active speakers (Aktiv 30) must be connected to a

preamplifier (the best is the Grundig XV7500).

I can modify Aktiv 30 but you have to ship the speakers to me, here

in Italy. The cost of modification is  300 euro (excluding shipment).

Best Regards

Massimo

Dear Massimo,

Thank you for your very valuable comments.

Oh sorry that I didn't mention Grundig CD7500 player which I got already.

I have used very good condition of CD7500 player with original cables as source for my brief evaluation.

I can now understand why the combination of V20 + Box Pro 650a is better than the combination of V20 + Aktiv Box 30.

But I still have some questions about the combination of preamplifier (XV 7500) + Aktiv Box 30.

You mean those combination doesn't need any power amplifier further ? The preamplifier output could be connected directly to Aktiv Box ?

So Grundig Aktiv Boxes are just dedicated speakers for Grundig preamplifiers ?

I think that the former users of Aktiv Box in Korea mostly did not realize such an important facts.

Any comments should be very helpful for me anyway.

Many thanks,

Kwang

Dear Kwang,

> But I still have some questionsabout the combination of preamplifier
> (XV7500) + Aktiv Box 30.
> You mean those combination doesn't need any power amplifier further ?

Active speakers do not need any power amplifier further.
The power amplifier is built-in. You must connect the preamplifier output directly to Aktiv Boxes.

> So Grundig Aktiv Boxes arejust dedicated speakers
> for Grundig preamplifiers ?
Yes, Grundig Aktiv Boxes are just dedicated for Grundig preamplifiers.

Best Regards
Massimo

Dear Massimo,

You may be confused for my questions concerning about Grundig Aktiv Box 30.

I am not still sure but my Aktiv Box 30 which I bought in Korea may be already modified one.

Since it has no connections for amplifier except R+L connectors as normal passive type speakers.

Which passive network (such as Box 850's or 650's etc) may be very compatible to my Aktiv Box 30 if I would like to use it as passive type speaker.

Any comments should be very valuable for me.

Best regards,

Kwang

Dear Kwang,
please, can you send to me a photo of rear panel and connectors of your Aktiv Box 30?

Best regards
Massimo

......

Dear Kwang,

I am sorry to tell you that your Aktiv Box has been modified:

somebody removed the amplifier and active crossover network.

I am sorry to tell you that it is not possible to replace them with a

passive crossover network featuring the same Grundig original

assembling.

I can suggest only you can keep woofer, midrange and tweeter as

replacement parts for other Grundig Box Professional series.

Hello Peter,

the LT-mod for CD960 involves the solution of the C.C.I. (Circuit Chassis Interface) problem.

As I worked very hard and so long to understand how the C.C.I. works and the solution of this problem, I do not intend the offer any

technical explanation except of what you can read in my website.

I am really sorry.

Massimo < id="AutoNumber72">

Hi,
I was surfing the internet and came across your site, and wonder what does this CCI (Circuit Chassis Interface) project involve. You come up with interesting results and findings, but did not bother to elaborate about the "problem" and the so called CGI solution. Can you explain what this "problem" concerns and describe what this 'circuit chassis interface' is. Maybe people can understand your vision and Grundig's for that matter and why this is not done anymore or been done by other manufacturers. Seems to me that this must be some electrical modification that should not been overlooked by the major companies and if so they are pretty stupid, and only Grundig has come up with this solution for the 'problem'. Why did Grundig didnot use this anymore in their later products. And why is it so important that the original cables should not be changed, why is it so crucial to the solution.

Kind regards,

André xxxxxx
The Netherlands

Dear Andre',
I am sorry, but I have worked very hard and so long to understand how the C.C.I. works and the solution of this problem. So I do not intend the offer any technical explanation except of what you can read in my website. I am really sorry.

It is very difficult the engineering of a system solving the C.C.I. but, if you open it, apparently it looks similar to other hifi products. This is the reason why other manufacturers have not copied the solution of the C.C.I. from Grundig products.

I do not know why Grundig has changed its production, probably they have replaced the engineering team or they outsourced the production. I tried several times to contact the old Grundig engineering team but I've never had any answer.

The C.C.I. can also explain why cables sound different...

Hello Massimo

I find your website very interesting.

Yes, The old grundig sound was much better than its contemporaneous hifi systems on the market and even nowadays its hard to find ordinary equipments tat match the quality of them. Not only amplifiers and speakers were unrivaled but also cassette decks and tuners could record and produce a superior sound. I suggest you should launch a new hifi series sharing the same philosophy or convince the new grundig engineers to follow the same updated line again. It would be a great success. To improve your website it would be a good idea to complete the grundig story with more good products and photos. Also include more affordable items in your recommended products.

I have the the old grundig mini hifi system mxv 100, ma 100, mcf 400, aktive bosx xm 400 and wouldn´t change it for a modern standard one.

Greetings from Spain.

Lorenzo xxxxxx

Dear Lorenzo,
thank you for your message and your suggestions. I am happy you enjoy
the old Grundig sound. I am producing some hifi components sharing
the same technology in order to solve the CCI problem (circuit
chassis interface): they are called Linear Transfer. The line
includes a preamplifier, two power amplifier (25W or 50W), the
modification for CD player, the floorstanding speakers. I am not in
relationship with new Grundig engineers and I think it is hard to
convince them. You can find more photos of old Grundig products in
the database of our forum. The "recommended components" list includes
only products can assure a good result (but worse than Grundig). Saludos

Massimo

I read your article on hi-fi.

Is it still possible to locate the Gale speakers GS 401 or 401A.

Any idea what a fair price for a set of two would be?

Thanks.

Gs 401 are a very good speakers but a little bit worse (for example) to Dahlquist DQ10 (and to some models of Grundig).

In Italy the price is around to 700-800 euro.

Hi Massimo,

I have the opportunity to buy a Grundig MXV100, MA100 and MT100. Do you recommend?

I would appreciate very much your opinion of that mini system. I would like to find out information about it.

Good series of 1980 but not the better Grundig.

Hi

I couldn't help but read your posting some months ago.    I had a secondhand V15 type III cartridge which I sold off two yrs ago (it was included with a turntable that I didn't need).    After selling it, I read reviews about it being one of the best V15's around.    The only review to the contrary was yours.    Well now I must say I agree with your review.     I recently got ahold of two V15 type III cartridges and two new styli under Shure's trade in program.    Shortly thereafter, I found a curiousity item at my local electronics shop.    The old-timer saved some old cartridge bodies, one of which was a Shure Tracer 1 with a broken stylus.    Needless to say, I cross-referenced it and found the M97HE stylus was a match for it.     I bought the NOS stylus (from stereoneedles.com) along with finding a M97 sales brochure.

.........OK, on to why I'm writing this.    Well, my friend (who uses a V15 type II with NOS stylus) and I decided to compare his type II to the type III and M97HE era IV (which compares to the V15 type IV).     Well to my amazement, the M97era IV actually sounded the best overall!     I'd even say the type II sounded pleasing too though a bit weak on higher frequency details (but for some very strange reason, the type III with MR stylus is just a bit too bright on the top end and not as rich sounding as either the II or IV).     Oh, and one last note:  I have a Shure V15 IV body without stylus (and am seriously considering the NOS genuine stylus for $159 - yet am going to be hard pressed to consider changing that M97 era IV now that I've heard it).   My thoughts.

........Paul

Hello

Your thoughts are fine.
The M97 IV have a sound very similar to V15 IV and both are very good pick up !

Hi Massimo,

I have the opportunity to buy a Philips CD303 which looks very similar to the Grundig CD7500. Do you recommend?

Or do you prefer to buy a CD7550. I could also buy a Philips CD960 here in the Netherlands for 100 Euro and modify it to LT.

Any suggestions on the best option for me?

Rest of my setup: V7000 and Box500/Box450

Best regards,

Göran

Dear Göran,

The Philips CD303 looks very similar to the Grundig CD7500 but it is

very different. Do not buy it.

First step: buy the Grundig CD7550 (with a Grundig cable) and enjoy

its sound.

100 Euro for a Philips CD960 is a good price but the LT modification

is quite expensive (500euro).

Hope this helps.

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I have bought the CD7550 (for 50 Euro), Germany is not so far for uw. After warming up thoroughly it functions well, and sounds very good (full, open sound). It seems like the V7000 is opening up also with this CD player compared to the former one (high-end stuff).

At least I have a full Grundig setup now, and it is very enjoyable to listen to...

The only thing I miss now is a Grundig cable, do you know where I can get them as Ersatzteile or something?

Best regards,

Göran

Dear Göran,

I am very happy you enjoy the sound of Grundig setup compared to high- end stuff.

You can look for Grundig cables only in second hand market or ebay.

Saw your post about owning the Studio 3.  I am thinking of buying a used pair and was interested in your experience with these.  I have proac tablettes, EBT's and Sc1's so I have some experience with the brand.

I under stand these are also called 'EBS', true.  Do you know the original pricing? I have checked the blue book.

Your comments are appreciated

The Studio 3 EBS (extended bass system) is different model with the same drivers of Studio 3 but in different box for maximum extended bass.

Sorry but I don't remember the original price.

Hi Massimo,
Sorry to disturb you again.
I found another Grundig speaker in Taiwan.
It's BOX 660A.
You have said Box650a is good.
I wonder whether Box660a is as good as 650a.
And how much does it cost now?
I am really eager to have a Grundig speaker and enjoy the Grundig sound. Thanks a lot in advance.

Best,
Ludwig

Dear Ludwig

I am happy you have found a Grundig speaker in Taiwan. As you can see

in my website, the 660a is just a bit worse than the 650a:

http://motxam.interfree.it/Atop.html

As already told you, the old Grundig went bankrupt in the late

'80s.The 650a, 660a and others speakers are out of production. In

Europe the Ebay quotation for these kind of speakers is 100 - 150

Euro.

Please, remember to match the Grundig speaker with Grundig (or LT)

amplifier and source to enjoy its sound.

Hi Massimo.
Thanks so much for your response, and it is very appreciative and helpful. I didn't response by now,as I'm on budget expanses ,and can't afford those expensive items, and I didn't want to bother you without a real question/advice. However,I think I saw one of your recommendation the Dynaco ST-70 - Do you recommend the upgraded with Alan Kimmel-designed circuit as offered by Welborne Labs - I see it for about $700 and wanted to buy it?; Or is there a better modification for the ST-70, or can I just buy the stock one? I can't find you web-address - could you please send it to me? Thanks again Massimo for your kindness for taking the time and writing to me. If you are too busy - even a short advice is more than welcomed. Thanks again.Elli

Dear Elli,

I've never listed the Dynaco in my recommended page.

You will find my favourites equipments at: http://motxam.interfree.it/Atop.html

You will find my recommended (second choice) at: http://motxam.interfree.it/Arecom.html

Dear Sir,

Very sorry to disturb you.

I found one pair of grundig speaker BOX-5000 in Ebay of Taiwan.

Do you have any idea of this speaker ?

Does it sound good?

I wanna own a Grundig speaker but I am afraid of getting the wrong one.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Ludwig,
grundig speaker BOX-5000 do not sound good.
My suggestions:

- Bookshelf installation: Box300, Box350, Box400, Box500.
- Stand Mounted Speakers (small room): Box650a, BBC LS3/5a
(15ohm), Box600.
- Stand Mounted Speakers (big room): Box850a, Box1500a, Box800, Box1000.
- Floorstanding Speakers (small room): SL1000, SL1000a.
- Floorstanding Speakers (big room): Linear Transfer DSL. Obviously, as you can see in my website, I recommend source and
amplification Grundig or Linear Transfer.

Massimo Ambrosini

Dear Massimo Ambrosini,

Deeply appreciate your rapid reply.
I finally got a pair of Spendor S100.
It sounds great.
Do you have any idea about amplifiers suitable for S100?

In fact, there are few Grundig stuff in the market in Taiwan. So I don't have many opportunities to listen to their production. I have checked their website recently. It seems they have changed their style. I guess you would say their best production were all born twenty or thirty years ago, right?

Thanks for you kind reply.

Best,
Ludwig

Dear Ludwig,
I know Grundig equipments are hard to find out of Europe. But only
Grundig (and Linear Transfer nowadays) developed and applied the
research to solve the C.C.I. problem (Circuit Chassis Interface).
This is why they sound so different.

Except for Linear Transfer, there is not any other equipment that can
compete with the Grundig integrated amplifiers in production from
1977 to 1986 (V7000, V1700, V20, V30).

The old Grundig went bankrupt in the late '80s. The actual Grundig is
completely different and they have completely lost their knowledge
regarding the C.C.I.

I know the shipment costs are high but you should try a couple source- amplification Grundig or LT.

Best Regards
Massimo

Hello,

I found your website interesting.......what is your opinion of the older (1950s) Grundig tube amplifiers.  I have a large console with a tube amp,  Majestic 5-band radio, stereo 2-track open-reel and a top of the line Garrard turntable.

The amp has 4 "EL84" output tubes.  Are you familiar with this?

Thank you for your response.

Frank xxxx
Chicago
P.S. my favorite solid-state amp is the Threshold Class A.

Dear Frank
the older Grundig tube amplifiers are good equipments but they can
not really compete with the Grundig amplifiers in production from
1977 to 1986 (V7000, V1700, V20, V30).
Only the Grundig equipments in production from 1977 to 1986 apply the
technical solution of the C.C.I. problem (C.C.I. = Chassis Circuit
Interface).
The sonic performance of this kind of equipments is far superior to
the older Grundig tube amplifier and any other known hifi equipment.

Best Regards
Massimo

Hi Massimo.

I really enjoyed reading your recommended components, and to my surprise, the two speakers you recommended are the two speakers I own.I guess I wanted to ask your advice :I just changed from the quad ESL 63 to the DQ10. I also sold my Audio research classic 60,and I'm in the used market for a good used amplifier to drive the DQ10, and also my ESL 63, in the range of about $750.It can be either solid state or tubes.(My pre is Conrad Johnson PV11).

It will be great and very appreciative if you could give me some ideas or recommendations? (I was thinking about Bryston 4B or Conrad Johnson MV50, but I haven't heard any of them).

Looking forward to hear from you.

Regards.Elli

Dear Elli,
as you can see in my website, my preferred amplifiers in the used
market are the Grundig V7000 and V1700. I suppose they are really
hard to find in the U.S.A. so I can suggest a new Liner Transfer
amplifier with a CD player Linear Transfer (they work best together). My second choice would be a Classe' Audio DR3B or Krell KSA50 or Leak
TL12 Point One (as you can see in my recommended page).
Hope this helps.

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I'm very satisfied with my new (old) V7000, even compared to my Sugden A21a (being accustomed to Sugden sound for 25 years, but would like to check whether there are any problems with mounting of components inside, as you mention in the forum and on the Italian site. Is there any way to do that check myself, and possibly correct it?

I still need Grundig speakers of course to get the optimal result and have ordered Box 450's, any suggestions on those...

Thanks,

Göran

The Netherlands

Sorry but I check the v7000 only at my home . If you want shipping to my address, cost of checking (and correct mounting of components inside) is 10 euro + shipping cost.

Box 450 is very good ,  better are 400-350-300.

Hi Massimo,

I read the Grundig story on your web-site and found it interesting.

I own a Grundig V1700 for about 15 Years an was always satisfied with it.

Unfortunately the left channel of both speakers and headphones broke. Now

I bouht a Grundig V7500 ( I don't have it yet ) and wanted to find out something

about that amp. Is it compareable to the V1700, because I think the V7500 was

built a little bit earlier? Or should I try to fix the V1700?

Any advice is welcome!

Greetings from Germany,

Matthias

Hi Matthias

My advice is : try to fix the V1700.

V7500 is good amp but a little bit worse.

Best Regards

Greetings, I have been reading your site and am very interested in your discoveries and your opinions. I emailed you a few weeks ago about Grundig amplifiers (I currently have a Naim Nait 2 with Audiomasters 15ohm Ls3/5a's). I have seen a few V7000 and V1700 sell on Ebay.de, but I cannot use the amplifiers because they are all set to European voltage (220-240v) and I am in the USA (110-140v). Is there a voltage step-down device I can use? Can you recommend another integrated amplifier that might be available in the USA?

also, I have found lots of old Grundig speakers on Ebay lately for example these Box 412:

xxxxxxxxxxxx

Do they sound good? They look very nice and I am curious how they would sound on my Naim compared to my ls3/5a's.

I also found this MXV 1000 preamplifier, for 120v:

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Is this any good? can it be used with a regular amplifier?

Thank you for your site and all of your insight, which I respect very much. By the way, I listen to mostly classical piano - and I am also a fan of Michelangeli - especially his Schumann Carnival and of course, his Debussy.

Thanks a lot, Jonathan

Box 412 and mxv100 are not a very good Grundig. For the boxes you can find in ebay de , for amp and preamp the voltage is a problem ! If available in your country you can use an external trasformer (input 110v - output 220v)..... or wait to find the amps Grundig in US ! No other amplifier I can recommended.

Best Regards

Massimo

Hello, I just wanted to thank you for all the interesting information on your website. I im looking for an amplifier for my 15ohm Audiomaster LS3/5a's and wondered what you could recommend? I am using a Naim Nait 2 right not and i feel they are underpowered. I cannon find any Grundig amplifier anywhere here in New York. Please let me know of your opinions,

thanks ciao

You can find a Grundig on ebay (Germany),the connection with 3/5a 15ohm is very good and much most transparent of the Naim. I advise the model V7000, V1700, V30, V20 . All excellent.

Ciao

Dear Sir,

I have with great interest read your Listening Feeling pages, and  especially  your recommendations of old Shure cartridges. I totally agree, with one  important exception. You state that M 75 ED is a bad cartridge.

Why ? I have  many of the old good Shure cartridges (and old Dual record players, incl.  701 and 1219). In my opinion the Shure M 75 ED is a great tracker, but  requires a very light tone arm because of very high compliance.  And I guess you are aware that the new Shure replacement styli  are very bad.  You must order NOS Shure styli from the 1970-80 production (nude diamonds). These are very difficult to find. Then Shure M 75 ED is perhaps the worlds  best cartridge.

Regards

Kjell

Dear Sir

The Shure M75ED is not a bad cartridge but in my opinion the stylus (original) N75G or N75G T2 is very better !

> And I guess you are aware that the new Shure replacement styli

> are very bad.

Yes, very bad!

> You must order NOS Shure styli from the 1970-80 production (nude diamonds).

> These are very difficult to find

I have the same problem... :-)

Hi,

I have an opportunity in buying an Audio research D70 amp at a very low price. I was interested in knowing what you think about this amplifier.

Thank you for your time.

Stéphane

The D70 is a storical good Audio Research and if you can buy it a very low price this is an opportunity (if dont'like it you can sell everytime). When you have bought the D70 , you can test a old Grundig amplifier (v7000 , v1700, v20, v30 etc) if you want listen the difference !  Regards

Massimo

Dear Sir,

I have just visited your website and am very interested in Linear Transfer products because I like Grundig sound. What Linear Transfer products are supplied to the market and how they can be brought in Hong Kong.

Regards,

Michael

The LT production is a little amatorial production with directly distribution in Italy. The only means for buy LT is a shipping (expensive) from Italy !
